Jokowi blinks, asks for legal crackdown on unmarried sex to be postponed
Should we be surprised?
Haven't we seen similar before? The Sultan of Brunei withdrawing the death penalty by stoning for gay sex coz people were going to boycott his hotels around the world..

https://www.smh.com.au/world/asia/jokow ... 52t5k.htmlThe sweeping legal changes would have delivered a considerable blow to Bali's profitable tourism industry as they would have applied to foreigners.

I doubt if the super rich, well connected, javanese who reap so many of Bali's tourist dollars will allow this law to take effect for foreigners in Bali. Nor the government for that matter.
And i suspect that the vast majority of the "I've been to bali too" crew will not factor in a toss about human right issues when choosing their package deal.
But maybe i overestimate the power of money, and of cheap holidays.
Maybe those rich powerful Muslims really do care about public morality, and australian pleb tourists really do care about human rights.
(giggle)

^^^^^^^
The chinese have taken the crown away from aussies as the No 1 number of tourists to Bali.
Maybe they're more moral with regard to these proposed laws and less likely to offend

Indonesia’s new “sex outside marriage law” on hold
I know many of you will be happy to note that the Indonesian people would not put up with this rather draconian law.

"The reforms could have struck a blow to the tourism industry in the popular holiday island of Bali. On Friday, the Australian government issued updated travel advice to warn citizens they could be charged for having sex, and other foreign embassies were expected to follow suit.
A few hours later, President Widodo announced that he had asked parliament for a delay, admitting that he had “concluded that there are still materials that need further examination.”
Well, blow me down with a feather... money talks.
Now, we just gotta stop china, india, sth korea, and usa from buying saudi oil and they will very quickly stop cutting peoples heads off.
Puffing up our moral chests and blowing hard doesn't seem to work.

somehow they have forgotten is now 2019 not 1819
https://www.asiatimes.com/2019/09/artic ... rital-sex/The proposed criminal law overhaul could affect millions in the world’s biggest Muslim majority country, including heterosexual couples who might face jail for having sex outside wedlock, or having an affair.
But there are also fears it could punish the Southeast Asian nation’s small LGBT community as gay marriage is not allowed in Indonesia.
“Indonesia’s draft criminal code is disastrous not only for women and religious and gender minorities, but for all Indonesians,” said Andreas Harsono, senior Indonesia researcher at Human Rights Watch.
....Indonesia’s Aceh province already imposes Islamic law, and whipping is a common punishment for a range of offenses including gambling, drinking alcohol, and having gay or pre-marital sex.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

The Saudi backed madaris have ruined so many countries and are the cause of the world's current problems... Sad that if the west just donated a small amount to educating the youth in these places than the world would be a much safer place.SternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 1:32 am

Sadly, there is more money in weapons than in books.
You could be next.

Not so cheap.
"When Saudi King Salman bin Abdl Aziz visited Jakarta in 2017, he allocated a $13 billion budget for business, education and religion in Indonesia."
