Beware the $3 Massage Parlors

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

So 2 questions on this, cause it seems to be in common with previous postings:

1) why are people carrying so much cash with them to places where their wallets are going to be out of reach.
2) how are the police successfully 'catching' these folks on a he said / she said situation long after the theft occurs?

This time next day... last time I think it was sometime later. I can understand if the victim realised on the spot and kicked up a fuss on the spot and called the police... but next day?

Clearly still new to Cambodia and have some things to learn.

They use their own police massage technique.

How I look when I walk around Phnom Penh with 600$ in my pocket :

It’s hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it’s damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.

Getting mugged or pick pocketed is always a risk, why not carry around $600

I went there last night but made the stupid mistake of just getting money out of an ATM.
I thought I was playing safe by putting my pants on the bed beside me instead of the clothes hook by the door.

Only when I got back to my room did I notice the fake 100usd bill and was also missing 40. I thought straight away the ATM had given me the fake bill but remembered reading this thread and realised I had been robbed during the massage. There must have been someone hiding in the room who came out and stole the money and swapped the 100usd bill . Didn't hear a thing.

I'm down 140usd and was tempted to call the police but don't want my mug plastered all over the internet.

This happened to me too, probably in the same massage place. Street 19 near street 172. My two real $100 bills got exchanged for two fake ones with the word COPY on the front and the same serial number on both bills. I didn't use any ATM there and this is the only place an exchange could have taken place. Unfortunately I didn't find out until a week later when I had already left Cambodia and was trying to exchange money in Indonesia.
