He got 4 years for importing 3kgs of heroin into Australia ??? That doesn't sound right. Isn't that a little on the lenient side ?

He was given a discounted sentence for giving information to the police.
But sill - that is a very very light sentence regardless.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, nor do i believe that Oz judges "are all bent" - but i often see sentences for major crime gang members that seem way below the normal sentencing parameters.
This Thai guy was working with the Calabrian "mafia".
We can only wonder.

A dishonest backstabber should do a decent politician. I don't see what the problem is.SternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 4:00 pm He was given a discounted sentence for giving information to the police.

Also, if Australia hadn't made heroin illegal, people wouldn't have to smuggle it in. Somebody has to help the addicts. Nicotine slaves can get their cigarettes at the corner shop. Why can't people enjoy a bit of heroin now and again?

Update, SMH yesterday
Think very carefully before you sue the australian media - it is likely to backfire if you have lots of little secrets in your background. They still do some real investigative journalism - especially out of self preservation.
"It’s hard to imagine a politician’s week getting much worse than being caught out over a lie downplaying a four-year jail sentence for a conspiracy to import heroin.
But that was just the start of a series of scandals for the teflon-like Thai cabinet minister Thammanat Prompao, whose past 10 days went from very bad to baffling and beyond."
"Four hours in Sydney, four years in jail and the week from hell"

You could be Justin Trudeau and have an 18-year-old picture appear of you in 'blackface' at an Arabian Nights theme party.SternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 7:13 am It’s hard to imagine a politician’s week getting much worse than being caught out over a lie downplaying a four-year jail sentence for a conspiracy to import heroin.

Not just 1 but 3 in 36 hours, all forgotten for years until the last month of an election campaign. How very Gary Hart
