Around 75 per cent of patrons are locals at the popular blue and yellow colour-schemed eatery. Al’s Tacos sells more than 4,000 tacos a month.

Tan’s father left Cambodia for California in 1980, and it was in Southern California that Tan tasted his first taco. He eventually enrolled in culinary school before joining the US Army, serving tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“When I came to Cambodia, I worked in demining with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre. I then started the business.”

“We’re incredibly proud that we make what we consider to be the best tortillas from raw corn in Southeast Asia, which is a really big deal – and the flavour is phenomenal. It’s very authentic, very delicious.

“We do use imported Mexican spices in our spice blend for the SoCal dishes because we want to offer a new experience to our Cambodian customers,” Tan explains.

“I think one of the best things about Al’s Tacos is the ability to bring both authentic and fusion flavours, which are created to cater to local tastes as well. So we’re able to share something new for the local market while still maintaining the flavour balance.

So, he's making six grand a month on taco sales, plus a bit on drinks and chips.

Rent's probably a grand or so, staffing and bills maybe another two grand.

Not bad going, provided you keep the staff honest.

Hot damn well done! Does this taqueria also serve burritos with refried beans?
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

It must be very popular with ninjas to sell 6000 a month because I drive past it almost every day and it's always empty.

You drive down st. 278 every day?

Unless you live on that street, it would be very odd to do so.

Anyway, you should cruise by now....I just picked up 4 tacos and the place was not "empty".

Verdict? Scrumdidilyumptious :thumb:

Have you been on Sihanouk blvd during rush hour? Coming up behind Lucky is a pretty convenient way to turn right on Monivong. You should try it.

Should I?

Which "rush" are you speaking of? Morning rush; Lunch rush; or Evening rush?

If you want to play detective trying it yourself is a good way to find out I guess. You could stop at The Filling Station and fill Philippino holes after stuffing yours full of Al's.

I'd say the grid lock at Sihanouk is best experienced at 7:45 in the morning or 17:30 on a rainy afternoon. The perfect time to get stuck if you'd wish. :hattip:

I see you're going to be a snarky twit today. Well my good man. 7:45am and 5:30pm is hardly prime taco eating time. No wonder the place looks deserted to you.

Good luck with your commutes. :thumb:
