Re: Children's Rights NGO Workers Sacked for Fraud and Child Sex Abuse
UPDATE: There is concern that the adults accused in this case are attempting to subvert child witnesses. The children are all in care with the NGO in question, but a girl witness has been reported missing. The chief accused, Sothea Arun, refuses to answer summons by the authorities, and it is believed that the missing girl may be with him. What is going on ?

Teen witness in abuse court case goes missing
A 17-year old girl who is the witness in a child abuse court case has gone missing from a Non-Governmental Organisation shelter, Sovann Komar, since Sunday.
Bradley James Gordon, a legal representative of the organisation, said yesterday the girl’s sudden disappearance was a matter of concern, especially with her being one of the witnesses in a case filed against the former executive director of Sovann Komar, Sothea Arun.
“She went missing at about 3.30pm from the shelter,” he said, adding that the girl had given sworn testimony to the prosecutor at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court in October about her horrific experiences she encountered with the accused when she was six years old.
Gordon said the management of the shelter has enough reasons to believe that she may be with the accused.
In August 2019, Arun was removed as executive director of Sovann Komar, also known as Gold Children, together with four other staff.
Gordon claimed that Arun and the former members involved, continued to manipulate the children by persuading them to favour the defendants after discovering several text messages.

Jesus this case just gets getting worse every month. Shouldn't he be in jail awaiting trial if the evidence is ample?

The power play is still on going. The NGO sponsor is an heiress (I think was mentioned in a previous article). If the sponsor was a Chinese tycoon, it would be over. Does the PRC sponsor orphanages in the Kingdom of Wonder? The Khmer is obviously connected.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:Jesus this case just gets getting worse every month. Simple, just go round his pad, take the door off with the magic key, throw him down the stairs a couple of times and say" wheres the kid, nonce case"

Well, according to this article from SCMP, either Sothea Arun has been set up, or he is guilty. If he has US$1.4 M+ on his bank accounts then he is looking very guilty IMO.
Problem is that you can buy a lot of Get Out of Jail Free Cards with $1.4M.The former head of a high-profile Cambodian orphanage, founded by the heiress to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, has been accused of molesting children in his care and stealing at least US$1.4 million.
In an August 8 media statement, the Sovann Komar home said its year-long inquiry had uncovered “widespread evidence of horrific child abuse and financial fraud” committed by Sothea Arun, its former executive director.

He's obviously been set up. Anybody can easily save up $1.4M working as the CEO of an NGO... I'm sure he bought tons of Tesla stocks back in March, and sold them before they tanked. Being frugal and a smart trader can have tremendous results! At any rate, he's guilty as shit and won't spend a day in jail.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 9:26 pm Well, according to this article from SCMP, either Sothea Arun has been set up, or he is guilty. Was. As far as I can follow she's dead now.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 7:05 pm The NGO sponsor is an heiress (I think was mentioned in a previous article).
Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: Children's Rights NGO Workers Sacked for Fraud and Child Sex Abuse
I’d say this 17 yo girl – the case’s key witness – is in imminent danger. Meanwhile the criminal justice system, glacial in its movements, sits around with it’s thumb up its ass.
Child sexual abuse, fraud, embezzlement of millions...
Meh

‘Missing’ Teen Witness Shows Up to Court to Defend Alleged Child Torturer

An orphanage set up by a Johnson & Johnson heiress on prime Phnom Penh waterfront land has become embroiled in a child torture trial that on Friday saw a teenage witness who went “missing” for five days show up to “find justice” in favor of the alleged torturer.
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court was due to commence the trial on Friday morning, but the session was postponed amid questions of a conflict of interest among one of the lawyers.
The orphanage, Sovann Komar, was established in 2003 by Elizabeth Johnson, an heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical fortune. The facility took care of more than 50 children in family-style units, with married couples taking care of five or six children each, she told a newspaper in 2009.
Johnson died in 2017, however, leaving others in the family to take care of the project.
The compound is on prime waterfront real estate in Chbar Ampov district, next to the currently under-construction Koh Norea satellite city development by the prominent Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation.
Last year, Sothea Arun, the facility’s long-time director, was fired alongside the head of security and about a dozen staff as new management took over, local media reported.
Arun was at the time accused of a raft of misconduct, including fraud and physical abuse, leading to the child torture court case against him.
Earlier this week, a lawyer representing the orphanage told the Khmer Times that a teen witness had gone missing from the facility on Sunday, and that he feared Arun was manipulating her and other children to testify in his favor.
The girl was at the courthouse on Friday. Media and NGO monitors were barred from the session, with a court official saying it was due to Covid-19 precautions.
But the girl told a reporter as she exited that she wanted to defend Arun: “I came here to find justice for him.”
She was away from the orphanage for five days, she added, without explaining where she had been.
Sao Vita, one of four defense lawyers, said the allegations against Arun included torture against about 10 children under his care.
