Re: Aviation News
India had a similar scandal a few years back, as I recall. Some senior members of a certain department ( not named) were complicit in this.
But there have been a few cases in Europe over the years, too. One not so long ago (<4yrs), and I believe he’s still trying it on.

Re: Aviation News
There has been plenty of bogus doctors over the years getting away with fake foreign qualifications, so it's hardly a complete surprise that pilots are no exception, save only for my point that it is one of those professions that ought to put off charlatans by virtue of serious personal risk.

Finland's air force quietly drops swastika symbol
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53249645It was long a rather surprising choice of imagery for Finland's Air Force Command - a swastika and pair of wings.
The symbol will always be intrinsically linked with Nazi Germany and its crimes, even though its roots go back many thousands of years.
But now it has been confirmed the Air Force Command has quietly stopped using this unit emblem.
The change was first observed by University of Helsinki academic Teivo Teivainen.
He had previously questioned whether the continued use of the symbol was helpful for the Finnish armed forces.
Finland's air force has been using a swastika ever since it was founded in 1918, shortly after the country became an independent nation and long before Nazism devastated Europe.
Until 1945 its planes bore a blue swastika on a white background - and this was not intended to show allegiance to Nazi Germany, though the two nations were aligned.
While the symbol was left off planes after World War Two, a swastika still featured in some Air Force unit emblems, unit flags and decorations - including on uniforms, a spokesperson for the Finnish air force told the BBC.

'Survival Team' set up for Thai Airways
published : 9 Jul 2020 at 19:55
A so-called "Survival Team" has been formed to work out a business plan for Thai Airways International (THAI) to support the debt rehabilitation of the carrier, according to a source at the airline.
Acting THAI president Chansin Treenuchagron has ordered the team to get up and running.
The Survival Team is in charge of producing a business plan, effective from July 9 to Oct 31.
It represents an integral part of the rehabilitation blueprint which the airline will submit to the Central Bankruptcy Court on Aug 17, one day before the court is scheduled to decide whether to admit the airline's rehab case, according to the source.
The source said the team will be headed by Chai Eamsiri, vice-president for Petroleum, Corporate Insurance and Aviation Environment.
It will comprise 21 members who are executives of various departments of the airline.
The team will be advised by executive vice-presidents for commerce, corporate strategy and sustainable development, operations, and the technical department.
On Wednesday, Mr Chansin also signed an order appointing Nond Kalinta, vice-president for Alliances and Commercial Strategy Department, to concurrently hold the post of acting executive vice-president for corporate strategy and sustainable development.
The appointment came into effect immediately.
Also on Thursday, acting executive vice-president for commerce Wiwat Piyawiroj admitted tickets on THAI flights have been offered for sale for next month although no date has been set as to when the airline will resume its scheduled flights and what cities it will fly to.
Mr Wiwat said it was normal practice for commercial airlines to prepare marketing plans ahead of time while keeping in mind the economic outlook in a given year.

Plane travel, COVID-19: Qatar Airways to make passengers wear face shields and masks - experts' opinion
A cabin crew member wears the shield and mask, in addition to a new protective gown.
As mask rules have caused some controversy on airlines in recent months, Qatar Airways is taking an even stronger stance by requiring economy passengers and cabin crew to wear both face masks and face shields on board.
In its recent announcement, the airline says it will provide passengers with a complimentary kit of disposable protective gear that includes a shield, surgical mask, gloves and hand sanitiser gel.
Anyone refusing to wear a face shield during the boarding process will not be allowed to travel on the flight, the company said.
The complimentary protective kit includes a ziplock pouch with a single-use surgical face mask, large disposable powder-free gloves and an alcohol-based hand sanitiser gel. Business Class customers will also be offered an additional 75ml sanitiser gel tube.

I don't think so, not in the long term anyway. Is this the future?
One hour testing is with us and will become the norm. That means airport screening, via testing and issuance of an internationally recognised certificate is an option. It will not be cheap, convenient nor pleasant, but workable with a 4 hour pre-flight arrival at the airport.
The aviation and tourist industries are just too valuable to be destroyed. If you can test everyone immediately before travel, there is no reason for countries to keep their borders closed and their fleets grounded.
While they are busy on vaccine research, they are also busy on testing too and if anyone can make a 15 minute test that's >99% accurate, travel and tourism is good to go.

AirAsia X carried fewer than 2,300 passengers in second quarter
By Cirium
10 August 2020
Long-haul low-cost carrier AirAsia X carried only 2,291 passengers during the three months ended 30 June.
By comparison, the Malaysian carrier had flown nearly 1.46 million passengers in the same period of 2019.
”AirAsia X Thailand reported a PLF [passenger load factor] of 82% in 2Q20, as seat capacity was recorded at 377, and passengers carried totalled up to 309 during the quarter. Similarly with AirAsia X Malaysia, our Thai associate announced the hibernation of its fleet earlier this year, and remains in hibernation to date.”
AirAsia X Malaysia’s fleet stood at 24 A330s while AirAsia X Thailand’s remained unchanged at 14 A330s during the quarter, says AirAsia X. The group fleet totalled 40 A330s, including two aircraft with AirAsia X Indonesia, at which operations have been suspended since 2019.
