Yikes:Kampot to be home to Cambodia’s largest ecotourism destination

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I wouldn't worry too much about this Kampot 'eco' resort come to fruition. Mister Evengroen has announced several other developments, none of which have been realised, so far... Alexander is interested in one thing and one thing only: promoting himself.

More than 3 years ago, the Phnom Penh Post already had their doubts about the credentials of Mister Evengroen (https://www.phnompenhpost.com/post-prop ... -real-deal).
That so-called TedX video is fake and he even admits it, saying: “It’s not a con. It’s marketing”
He's obsessed with luxury goods as pictured in the same PPP article: Alexander has a different car key for every day of the week... That's just childish.

The same obsession is visible when he launched the #1 online fashion store in Cambodia Na Rita (https://www.phnompenhpost.com/siem-reap ... ts-wealthy), which was supposed to bring designer clothes to the Kingdom. See what this #1 fashion store's website looks like: http://naritafashion.net/

And this is what Alexander boasts about in his LinkedIn profile (https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexanderevengroen): Na Rita Fashion is the largest Online Fashion, Make Up, Art & Design and Electronics business in Cambodia.

On GoodReads, both of the 2 books Evengroen has (co)written have 1 review each. Of five stars. And rated by... you guessed it. (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/9 ... _Evengroen)

Except for some photography books about the countries he apparently has lived in (Ghana, China) and/or traveled through and the volunteer positions he mentions on his LinkedIn profile, there's not a thing to be found about mister Evengroen before his time here in Cambodia. Nada, nothing, not even about another book he wrote about the history of his surname (https://www.blurb.co.uk/b/248586-evengr ... -2e-editie), which normally would have attracted some attention in the Dutch press. And why did his 'marketing skills' fail him there? On Amazon this book has zero reviews, but of course an extensive biography of the author (https://www.amazon.com/Evengroen-1497-2 ... 1320164773).

Oh, and on the website of his new 'venture' ASEAN Realtor Inc., he suddenly calls himself 'Dr. Alexander Evengroen' (https://aseanrealtorinc.com/our-company ... 72803183b5). He most probably does not have that degree, as the highest education on his LinkedIn page is a 2 year study at the 'Leiden Educational Institute'. That's an unknown institute, but he probably means the Leidse Onderwijs Instellingen which offers online courses and can only award bachelor degrees.

Interestingly, his new venture's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ASEANREALTOR/) has one review. In Dutch. Translated it says: "Very, very bad!! Never again" By the way, on this Facebook page, KC Adventure Resort is said to be located in Basedth district, making it even further away from Kampot Town, more like halfway between Phnom Penh and Kampot.

To me it's quite clear: this Alexander Evengroen is not the World's #1 Success Coach, but rather the World's #1 Scammer. As it appears, rather successful, but still, a scammer. He reminds me a lot of that other con artist Robert Schmalohr.

Is there any way we can have some fun with this guy, in real life?

It is just plain WRONG, what he is doing.
The ECO thing gets on my goat particularly - the fraudulent use of the term, and the fact that if a finger is ever lifted in progressing this resort it is sure to be an environmental nightmare.
The thought of him conning a whole bunch of naive Cambodians is pretty revolting too. Even if they are the sons and daughters of the very rich.

Any suggestions for a bit of light-hearted fun??
( within the laws of the land, and internet libel protocols - of course)

Awesome work! This has the makings of another good ole' fashioned "smooth talking Barang takes okhna and his cash for a ride", like that Czech/Croat (?) guy did a few years ago with the money of a choumtiou with lofty plans for some resort near Kep.

'Leiden Educational Institute'
not sure if this actually exists or not but i lived in leiden for a few years in the early 90s. as well as being very central to the areas flower growers and so attracting a lot of young migrant workers, mostly uk stoners living in tents and nicking all the locals bikes from the smaller out laying towns.
leiden was at that time anyway a very nice place to live. its a university town. think it had a lot of med students. my only interaction with the students was trying to fuck some of the more stoned ones at the LVC club (sort of student union bar) the royal family, or some of them lived there. was not uncommon to see the queen riding around town on her bicycle.

If I remember correctly, the only Dutch Royal studying in Leiden in the early 90s was Prince Constantijn. And you cannot have seen the Queen on her bicycle in Leiden. Yes, when she was studying there (and still a Princess), she'd do that, but that was in the late 50s /early 60s...

Let's go back to the OP. $20M USD to build a 1000 hectare park with all the amenities listed? Even in Cambodia he is already in a fairy tale. $20M might buy the land and a soccer field.
It will take 5 years to complete Phase 1 of how many phases? A dinosaur park, now that is original. What kind of an ECO adventure will involve a cattle farm? And on and on and on. The only thing he has a doctorate in is Dutch bullshit (thus the cattle farm?).

Bets on completion? Can anyone in the area research what he claims has been done "We are already six months into it"?

Cambodia has a proven track-record of success with cattle husbandry, look at the roaring success of the abattoir complex just down the road from Kampot as one of the many examples.

maybe i was having my leg pulled, but an elderly lady was pointed out to me on more that one occasion as being the queen
