Funny English

Most Cambodians leave the end off words. Then when they write them, they sometimes spell them the way they say them.

Like Restaurang.

Lychee. Spent a few minutes of confused looks cashier when I tried to order the Lychee drink.

Missus had the step in with Li Chi.

Confusion lifted on her face.

I wasn’t pronouncing it the proper Khmer English way.

According to The Cambridge Dictionary, you can pronounce lychee two ways. The British say "lie-chee," while Americans say "lee-chee." Indeed, the British way of pronouncing it sounds quite elegant and sophisticated, like the fruit itself. ... There is no one way to pronounce lychee correctly.
