Beware - US Dollar Notes not accepted

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

The age is the point. The cashier thought the bill was too old. You thought it wasn’t. What year was the note and was it a tiny head Ben Franklin?

Ridiculous for a country that is supposed to be modernising fast.
everything is very simple - when there is a lot of food, people begin to choose the best and most delicious.
when there are a lot of dollars in a country, people choose the best of the best. :)

[Mod edit: no insults pls]

Legitimate currency is accepted by every bank in the USA. Currency that is deemed too old is placed in the "burn bag" and sent back to the US Mint to be incinerated and replaced by newly minted currency. If I know how the system works as a layman, how in the hell are these banking officials so damn ignorant?

I don't know but I get the impression that its sort of a hangover from the old days when there wasn't much (or anything i guess initially) in the way of formal banks. Also seems to relate to the Cambodian (or S.E Asian) way of looking at things- everything of value has to be shiny and new- I'd prefer an old pair of legit Levis or Nikes but I think most of these guys would prefer a brand-new copy-copy. (not that I'm saying they'd prefer a new counterfeit note to an old one, though those North Korean ones probably have a better chance of getting through than an old sellotaped legit one)
