Normal-Looking Woman Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Phnom Penh Market

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

If personal appearance is relevant then it should be included, regardless of whether it is a male or female.

If in doubt, leave it out and let the readers make an issue of someone's appearance if they so wish (and at their own peril).

Headlines for threads involving men don’t refer to their looks.

It’s very objectifying of women.
I would say interesting descriptions are used whenever they can be, and we only started using 'normal' when some balked at the other ones. Most of the time they come directly from the Khmer news sources, LoL.

I thought this one was pretty accurate:

thailand-news-and-discussion/bald-heade ... 26084.html

Even the soup received an adjective. :)
"Life is too important to take seriously."

"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."

The only solution is a comprehensive and retroactive ban of adjective use on the site.

FFS, I hope that common sense prevails and CEO doesn't turn into some kind of half-baked millennial safe space.

I'm beginning to feel that this entire generation should have been smothered in the crib.

Joke now, but this is where we're heading:

I personally am concerned that identifying someone as a tuk tuk driver or a drug dealer stereotypes people. I think it would be best if the news item just stated "someone did something wrong" or "something bad happened somewhere", that way no one would feel belittled by descriptive words. Often people are described as elderly at age 60 in news reports or deportees are described as homeless, these are very hurtful descriptions that conjure negative thoughts and emotions.

Sure, do we come across many like that? Or, are they rarer than hen's teeth?

Next thing we know we will have banned sating someones nationality in posts so others of that nationality are not subject to spurious innuendo regarding the offence alleged to have been committed.

Australia has got to the ridiculous state that a patron at a AFL game was removed from the game for calling an official referee "A bald headed flog"

Its a fun forum ....let it be fun

Descriptive literature gives us our culture..
It's up to us, collectively, if we want to enrich that culture - or go to gross.
Arguing/discussing it helps us to get it right. For us.

Personally i have increasing faith that we CEO ratbags can handle a pretty open range of expression.
I don't think it is dragging us down. A bit the opposte in fact.

I like the descriptions, they provoke debate which is always good.

Missed a good opportunity with the ...
Perky breasted, braless babe gets carried away with the house work down by the river in Siam Reap
A lie can get round the world faster than the truth can get its boots on.
