Three Nigerians charged with drug trafficking
Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged three Nigerian nationals for transporting nearly 21 kilograms of methamphetamine from Stung Treng province to the capital to be distributed.

Deputy prosecutor Pheng Heng yesterday said the three Nigerian men were charged with drug possession and trafficking. They face up to a life sentence each in jail if convicted.

“They transported drugs from Stung Treng province to stock in Phnom Penh,” he said. “They were charged with drug possession and trafficking.”

Mr Heng added that they are currently detained at Prey Sar prison pending trial.

Colonel Chim Sitha, Dangkor district police chief, identified the three Nigerians as Maduka Jona Schibudo, 35; Davis Candkwdo, 30; and Obiesie Chika Odinaka Chiemerie, 25.

UPDATE
May 27, 2020
Three Nigerians on trial for drug trafficking
Phnom Penh Municipal Court today began the trial of three Nigerian men accused of possessing and transporting nearly 21 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine over the Cambodia-Lao Border next to Stung Treng province, to sell in Phnom Penh.

Municipal Court Presiding Judge Le Sokha identified the accused as Maduka Jona Schibudo, 35 and Davis Candkwdo, 30, both unemployed; and clothing vendor Obiesie Chika Odinaka Chiemerie, 25.

Judge Sokha said the trio are charged with “drug possession and trafficking” under Article 40 of the Law on Drugs Control. If convicted, they face life sentences in prison.

Mr Heang said they were arrested at around 8pm on July 28, 2019, after municipal anti-drug police, in cooperation with Dangkor district police and led by the deputy prosecutor of the municipal court, raided the “Tony Guesthouse”, located in Tnoat Chroum 4 village of Meanchey district’s Boeung Tompun commune.

He said they knew of the accused’s whereabouts after the guesthouse owner, who witnessed them concealing a large number of drugs in their rental room, alerted district police on the same day of their arrest.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court today began the trial of three Nigerian men...
Their line of defense is that the drugs actually belong to someone else.
At today’s trial, Schibudo admitted to committing the offences, saying that the drugs seized belonged to an unidentified Nigerian man, who is still at large
