UPDATE
May 27, 2020
Three Nigerians on trial for drug trafficking
Phnom Penh Municipal Court today began the trial of three Nigerian men accused of possessing and transporting nearly 21 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine over the Cambodia-Lao Border next to Stung Treng province, to sell in Phnom Penh.
Municipal Court Presiding Judge Le Sokha identified the accused as Maduka Jona Schibudo, 35 and Davis Candkwdo, 30, both unemployed; and clothing vendor Obiesie Chika Odinaka Chiemerie, 25.
Judge Sokha said the trio are charged with “drug possession and trafficking” under Article 40 of the Law on Drugs Control. If convicted, they face life sentences in prison.
Mr Heang said they were arrested at around 8pm on July 28, 2019, after municipal anti-drug police, in cooperation with Dangkor district police and led by the deputy prosecutor of the municipal court, raided the “Tony Guesthouse”, located in Tnoat Chroum 4 village of Meanchey district’s Boeung Tompun commune.
He said they knew of the accused’s whereabouts after the guesthouse owner, who witnessed them concealing a large number of drugs in their rental room, alerted district police on the same day of their arrest.
