Siem Reap: At 12:40 pm on 21 July 2019, there was a car accident on the road leading down the New East Kulen Hill, in Ta Phleng village, Backhong commune, Svay Leu district.

The ISTANA, with license plate number Siem Reap 2A-9016 white, had a total of 13 passengers, including 8 women.

It appears that 5 people were injured, the victims were all Chinese, and they were sent to Svay Leu hospital for treatment.

PHNOM PENH, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese tourists died after their tourist van overturned on the Kulen Mountain in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province on Sunday, a district deputy police chief said.

The accident occurred at 12:40 p.m. local time when the van, carrying 14 Chinese people, turned turtle while driving down the mountain, said Soun Thay, deputy police chief of Svay Leu district, where the crash took place.

"Two Chinese nationals, a man and a woman, had died hours after the crash due to severe injuries, as several others were wounded," he told Xinhua, adding that one of the injured remained in serious condition and was hospitalized.

Soun Thay said the Cambodian van driver was blamed for the accident, saying that the driver escaped the scene soon after the crash.

The Chinese tourists hired the driver and his tourist van to take them to visit the Kulen Mountain and the accident happened when they returned from the mountain, he said.

According to Lieutenant General Chea Kimsan, deputy police commissioner, the Chinese victim, named as LIU HUAXIANG, born on 11 March 1963, arrived in the Kingdom of Cambodia on July 16, 2019 at the port Siem Reap International Airport with the Changhan Travel Company. RIP.

Siem Reap, Cambodia Breaking News: Following the deaths of three Chinese tourists in an accident on the Kulen mountain road this week, the Svay Leu district authorities have observed that there are some parts of the road which are not safe. The road is therefore closed to traffic from 25 July to allow works.
