Missing Person in Cambodia: BEVAN TERBLANCHE from South Africa

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Sent to CEO:

Hello,

I write to you in the hopes that you can help me. My brother has been missing for a week in Cambodia.

I currently live and work in Yangon with my brother. Last week he went to Cambodia for a short trip and to renew his visa to come back to Yangon.

I last spoke to him on Friday 12 July as he was leaving his hotel in Phnom Penh. He has not been online since then. I am worried that he has been in as accident or something has happened to him.

Please let me know what I can do to try to find him? This is not like him as he always keeps me updated.

He is about 5ft9, brown hair, brown eyes. He is 28 years old. Weight is approximately between 80-90kgs. His full name is Bevan James Terblanche and his date of birth is 25 March 1991.

Not sure how missing person cases are handled? Please let me know?

Best regards,
Nicole

Would it be possible to post this on your page in case anybody has seen him?

He is a South African citizen

Uh oh, last seen on Monday by a beautiful Cambodian girl, who he told he wants to be alone. Sounds like this visa run turned into a little R&R instead.

The story of Bevan James Terblanche's disappearance has a very sad ending. He was found dead in his hotel room on July 15, before his family reached out to CEO to try and locate him. These are the details from Bevan Terblanche's family sent to us about his death:

Please can you confirm that last seen date on the message? I have just been informed by his hotel that he passed away on 15 July. Please don’t update the post about this as I haven’t told my family yet.

He was found naked in his hotel room. CCTV footage of a girl leaving his room around time of death. No illegal drugs in his system, but the undertaker told me he is getting similar cases almost daily. He believes young men are being spiked and robbed and whatever their drinks are being spiked with is causing heart failure (especially if drinking alcohol). Official cause of death is heart failure., but reason is unknown. I have heard similar rumors from hotel staff as I flew out there to identify his body.

Probably GHB or Rohypnol or something not picked up in a standard drug test. I’m not a doctor or a chemist so who knows.

Will never know since we could not afford to send him home for a proper autopsy, but if there is a scam like this people should be warned about it? Not sure where to find more research to validate.

The police closed the case immediately and did not even look into it.

He was a commercial diver so his heart was healthy - he had to have a full annual medical including ECG etc.

I am trying to do as much research as possible. There won’t be justice but maybe some answers. And if this “take me home” scam is a real thing then perhaps someone else can be saved. There were things missing from his room but that could be the girl, hotel staff or police. Will never know.

But I feel like there is something to this spiking thing. Almost all of the heart attacks in Phnom Penh seem to be young men under 40. I’m sure some are overdoses etc, but the odds just seem too high for it to be coincidence.

I wonder if they ever think of the people that die or if it's just business as usual, too many young people being found dead in their hotel rooms.

RIP Bevan :(

If it was a robbery, why the naked part? The girl could have just sat it out, take his stuff, and leave.

I believe similar events take place in Pattaya and I am quite sure murder and robbery was not the original plan. A young lady of questionable integrity, a bf/pimp that does not give a flying F how he gets his money and if an elephant tranquilizer puts a guy to sleep, 3 will surely do the trick and a mark. As to why naked, one has to drink the sedative? cocktail and perhaps he was not thirsty when they got to the room. In for a penny, in for a pound. Having to do the nasty before he has a drink is a better option than getting a beating for coming home empty handed. RIP

So many possibilities; drugged and robbed/ fake viagra/cialis etc.

Sadly looks like they won't ever know for sure in this case & many others
