Two senior officers suspended over shoddy crackdown on Chinese Nationals
July 17, 2019
The General Immigration Department has suspended two senior officers for failing to properly manage a crackdown on Chinese nationals living illegally in Phnom Penh in May.

According to two letters, dated July 12 and signed by department director-general General Kirth Chantharith, Major General Mok Bunchheang and Brigadier General Kong Narin, both deputy directors of GID’s investigation and procedure enforcement department, were temporarily suspended from their duties.

“The GID decided to temporarily suspend Maj Gen Mok Bunchheang and Brig Gen Kong Narin for investigations to be conducted over the operation on May 22,” the letter said.

In the letters, Gen Chantharith also ordered Maj Gen Bunchheang and Brig Gen Narin to report for duty at the administration department and forbade them from carrying out field work.

Lieutenant General Uk Heisela, who was promoted as deputy director-general of GID by Prime Minister HE on July 12, yesterday said that Maj Gen Buncheang and Brig Gen Narin were suspended because they failed to properly manage the May operation against the Chinese nationals living illegally in the capital.
