Wat Phnom Elephant "Sambo" Retires to Mondulkiri

With the financial support of the project to support forestry and biodiversity of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Sambo, the famous elephant known by tourists for many years in the city, will retire in the wild this week that environmental conservation project initiated livelihood Elephants Elephants Livelihood Initiative Environment project (ELIE). Located in a forest in the eastern province of Mondulkiri, Cambodia.

According to the US Embassy's press statement on 25 November 2014.

Sambo, aged 52, was made public on the afternoon of November 25, 2014, to the national and international guests.

Statements that he has worked for more than 40 years, made the difficult decision to send Sambo to settle in new forests.

The owner said, "Sambo have helped my family for decades. Sambo has helped us to earn money to buy food and pay for our children's education. We owe a lot to Sambo and other elephants, and access to care. The decision-making process, it is hard, but it's the right decision for the welfare of Sambo. They need to retire and rest in their last life.

Transportation statement said rich province of Mondulkiri is a joint effort funded by the Alexander Abraham (Alexander Abraham Foundation), the US government, through USAID and Administration Forestry of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia.

At the end of the statement, Mr. Sean Callahan USAID Deputy Mission said, "USAID is pleased to be involved with all the fans and the Royal ceremony This exciting. Everyone loves rich, both in the country and the world. Sending rich back into the wild, showing the importance of conservation of endangered rare species. "

ELIE team is preparing a warm welcome to Sambo. Khun Diyon director Elie said, "ELIE project was created by the rich who think about elephants like this. ELIE We welcome the opportunity to bring Sambo the natural environment, where they can live with other elephants and live life with joy and peace. "
