Cambodia Breaking News (Battambang): On July 9, 2019, a woman pretended to be a fortuneteller in order to scam a seller at her shop on the road 3, near Nat Market Prek Mohatep village, Sangkat Svay Por, Battambang.

Before the incident, the victim called the fortuneteller to come and tell her fortune. So that she would have a lucky fortune, the victim took all her jewelry to get blessed by the fortuneteller. The suspect told her to close her eyes until one candle had burnt down to the end. When the victim opened her eyes, the suspect had gone, and so had her jewelry.

The victim lost a gold necklace, two platinum necklaces, a pair of the bracelets, three diamond rings, a pair of diamond earrings, and money for a million riel. The suspect left some fake money and fake jewelry as compensation, or perhaps she thought the victim wouldn't notice the difference.

However, the victim noticed that she had been scammed and robbed and she filed a complaint with the police who are searching for the suspect.

I'm betting the candle was a very big one in order for the perp to have plenty of time to say adios. And anyway, how would the victim know the candle had burnt down with her eyes closed

I guess the sound of the motorbike leaving from outside her door didn't give her a clue either.
