Your Supermarket Experience

Post by Francis »

Are you followed by staff ? Harrassed by staff ? Incorrect pricing ? Cheated by the cashier ? Rotten products, defrosted and multiple time refrozen products, sleeping staff on shelves............and so on, and so on.
Feel free to tell your experiences here and tell the name of the supermarket.......perhaps things are getting better then.....you never know.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Was at pencil this afternoon and boy it was quite inside. Most of the girls inside were playing with their phnone including the cashier when I wanted to pay, never seen that before in one of the big supermarkets. Really dont know how they survive with that bussiness.

When I ever go to a supermarket in Cambodia (which is once in a blue moon) I usually go to Lucky Supermarket and I haven't ever had a problem there. Sure, it's all a bit pricey, but at least I can actually do my own shopping. I don't have to pay more because I'm a Barang. I don't have to argue about the price. I don't have to send in my girl and wait outside the market because she gets things cheaper than I do. It's air conditioned. It doesn't reek of fish, blood and god knows what else. I've never been so unfortunate as to buy something that is beyond it's expiration date. So far, I found shopping in those supermarkets to be more enjoyable than at the regular markets to be honest.

Its not the shops fault but I hate seeing barangs drinking outside mini marts.

When I was in the UK we used to term drinking outside shops as "going Al Tesco"

I was at Angkor Supermarket a few weeks ago the girls were busy busy chatting and giggling among themselves at the check out, a barang and I looked at one another with dried smiles. I finally spoke in Khmer "do you get paid to talk or to serve customers?" She gave an an ugly, evil stare and slammed my goods into the plastic bag after barcoding them. I walked out from the line to look for the store manager, and lo the big boss just happened to be there (we knew each other). I told him what happened, he apologized and assure it will never happen again.

Every time I go to the market whether it's the big open air ones or the air conditioned ones, they assume I'm not cambodian. So they're always confused for a moment when I speak in Khmer. Since I hardly go to the market is why my dinner last night was rice and eggs lol.

Was at Thai Hout today. Staff there seem on the whole professional and polite. Prices are not always correct but when you get to the till are often lower than it says on the shelf.
The one things that they do which always annoys me is packing the bags. Raw meat in with fruit!! Lucky excel at packing non compatibles in separate bags.
On the very positive side they had just received a massive consignment of Haribo. Happy days for me and the dentist.
