What's happening in your life?

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

"Going dark."

From midnight tonight I've decided to "go dark" for three months and focus on making some money. No social media, no forums, Reddit, Facebook or WhatsApp. No friend catch ups or nights out to see a band or dinner - nothing, just work. Never having removed myself almost completely from the Interweb and the few friends I have, I'm interested to see what life looks like without those things.

I'll probably get to a few of the books I've been wanting to read. See you on the other side.
Interesting experiment, please report back after those three months how it went.

Got to nearly a month with spending far less time engaged in all of the above, but it seems three months was a bit much to ask as I need more social interaction in real life and online than I realized.

I'm actually in a really good place right now, and I probably feel better about life than I ever have. I also recently commenced work with a small startup and had an immediate effect on growth by implementing a couple of things. The CEO came to me yesterday and increased my renumeration (not by much) and asked if there was anything I needed. I said I wanted to work from Southeast Asia. She said no worries, (she’s from Thailand) so I’m now planning to move back to the region permanently in January or at least for the for the next few years.

My initial plan was to return to Southeast Asia and do the YouTube thing toward the end of the year to try generate an income, but with the hours required at the new gig being so few, I think I’ll pass on video making for now.

Not so long ago I decided to stop being negative, suspicious, defensive, combative, and generally disagreeable, instead trying to look at life positively while treating others with more compassion, respect, and understanding - since then my life has become immeasurably more fulfilling and rewarding. Who knew.

Welcome back to the social side of life. You just have to stay away from "social" media <<there be dragons << as much as possible to maintain your mental health and progress.

But there's nothing like having a good social circle of friends, which is very healthy for the mind.

For me, the above has been in the making for several years (pre-pandemic) and I think I have arrived at something similar. Part of the reason is that I have been taking better care of my physical well-being the past three or so years. Best I have felt in years. This tunes the mind for a happier vibe, which leads to better reactions all round.

OK, self-analysis <OFF

All the best KfH on your new job.

I was talking with the CEO and CFO a couple of days ago when it was mentioned my moving to SEA full time may not suit things moving forward as they now want to build a full time sales team around my experience blah blah blah... So I went back to my office, issued the company seven days notice, booked a one way flight to Kathmandu for the 26th of this month, walked out, and will now spend the next year making YouTube videos throughout Nepal, India, and Southeast Asia. Fuck 'em!

I’m alive. Go to see the heart surgeon next week to get dressings and sutures taken out. Then rehab. Lots of restrictions on activities and movement. Even car rides tire me out. Forget the normal daily commute and a regular work day. Moody roller coaster. Have to eat every few hours period. Sleep is shit.

Completely dependent on missus for everything, probably the first time ever. But I get to live my dreams of having the prettiest girl give me a sponge bath in the shower every day. Because I have to sit in chair and can’t reach around to clean myself.

Otherwise can’t even lift a bag of groceries. Or drive. Just keep watching the bills pile up. Feel like a useless sack of waste.

Is it just a phase? Absolutely! But it sucks living it.
