Social Media Notoriety Leads to Germans Arrest in Thailand

BANGKOK – Thailand’s immigration police have arrested a 34 year-old German man wanted on an Interpol Red Warrant thanks to the help of social media and the German embassy.

Acting Iimmigration chief Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chingduang told Thai media yesterday that German national Maximilian Fernsebner, 34, was arrested after they ran a routine check through the German embassy, discovering he was wanted on an Interpol red notice.

He said Maximilian had entered Thailand in 2017 prior to the notice being issued for charges related to drug trafficking, robbery and child pornography.

Maximilian Fernsebner, became an Internet sensation in Thailand when pictures of him helping his Thai wife sell barbecue chicken in the north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima were circulated online in May.

He was spotted by the Thai immigration authorities, who then checked him out, which lead to his arrest due to the cooperation between the Thai police and the German Embassy in Thailand. Obviously, the Thai authorities monitor the internet very closely. Even if you are not on the run, that is something to be aware of. Big Brother is watching you.

Police were sent to arrest him at his home in Ban Pong Prathun village in tambon Pak Chong, but he fled into a nearby forest, where he hid out for two days, the immigration chief said.

Before his surrender, police had been contacted by the embassy and advised the suspect had phoned his mother in Germany and said he would turn himself in if an embassy official was present.
Mr Fernsebner is being held in police custody, pending his return to Germany to stand trial.

If you are working illegally and have it posted over Facebook, you will likely get a visit from the Immigration police. Thai's love to see a farang doing a menial job, it is a novelty to them and these kinds of posts go viral, same as the ones of farangs picking up garbage on the beach. All farang must register their address with immigration if I stay at a hotel in Chiang Mai for example, the hotel notifies immigration, I have 24 hours to register when I return to my home. If I fail to register I can be fined. I can register online or in person, it is a five-minute process.

Anyone who is sought by the police in their own country for child porn, drug trafficking and robbery had best keep a very low profile while on the lam. This turd thought he had gotten away with it. As a foreigner, I must carry a copy of my passport identification page and current visa page with me at all times, that is their law and I suppose if I felt it is too onerous I could go elsewhere to live. Thais are not as worldly as we are, I am continually told about a farang that did this or that and they seem to think all must do this or that. I guess kind of like barangs that claim all
Khmer women are scammers or all Khmers don't care about safety. Pedo man is human waste and I am glad he is going home to face the consequences.

The immigration office in Sisaket is very accommodating, there is not a lot of farang in my province and most of us keep a rather low profile and do not cause shit. They are more concerned about illegal Cambodian migrant workers than farang out here but if you scam, cheat, steal or engage in other criminal activity they are only too happy to put you on display and collect their brownie points. But then that is their job and I can't say I blame them or disagree with them.
