I haven't read the article but as far as I know this currency was never actually used. You used to be able to buy sets of it Russian Market for about $10, but there was one note that was rare so was often a copy. The Anlong Veng special zone currency from the 90s is extremely rare and worth a lot to collectors. There's a very strange story about the silly foreigner who thought it was a good idea to do business with the KR and help print the notes.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I look at those pictures of the people being led away to their new utopia, oblivious of what awaits them. Where are they now?

Whenever I see older people in PP, i.e. 55+, I often wonder of what they went through, the stories they could tell. And then I reflect on my safe and easy life up until now.

OP is semi-fake news. The notes were printed but weren't "used" or even distributed because ownership of private property (including currency) was illegal.

This 2001 PP Post story gives info on 1993 Along Veng series - as well some history of the trade in both KR series, '75 and '93
https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... a-currency

This next link is a catalogue of all (?) Cambodian banknotes 1955 - 2015
The main chronological list includes the 1975 KR series.
Scroll to the bottom and you find the "postcard" 1993 Anlong Veng KR series.
http://www.atsnotes.com/catalog/banknotes/cambodia.html

Full set of Along Veng's worth $700 in Phnom Penh 2001.
I wonder what it would be worth today.

The fact they were not distributed makes them highly collectable and probably quite rare. How many were printed?

Ebay

Sample of higher value notes-

1954 100 Piastres/100 Riels $1900 (unfortunate blank space on an otherwise stunning note)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/French-Indo-ch ... Swwbxc4p93

1953 Dix Piastres/10 riel rare uncirculated $150
1955/6 Four random notes, poor cond $399
1956 50 Riels poor cond $750
1973 500 Riels poor cond $500
1955 1 Riel fair cond $85
