Re: Visa for child and gf
Bubble T is correct. I have been going through this process since 2013 and we are just about to be issued with the ILR, which means that my unmarried partner and mother of our child can stay in the UK long term and will be eligible for Citizenship after a further 12 months. The rules do seem to change every few years, but for now if you get the spouse/partner visa, it is a 5 year process from the date you arrive in the UK to get the ILR.
The visa has to be renewed at a cost of 2500 GBP after 2 1/2 years. It is a long, expensive process, and has been frustrating at times. Expect to be denied the initial visa and appeal the decision as that seems to be par for the course in most cases and seems more of a final check that the relationship is genuine than anything else.
You also have to pay an NHS surcharge of around 600 GBP at each renewal of the visa until the ILR even if your partner is working and paying national insurance.
You can get your child the UK passport at age 6 months, which is worth its weight in gold and every expat should do it regardless of future plans.

This is the key part that people seem to miss. It's the same visa whether you're married or not, all that changes is the supporting documentation. Same with getting the passport, they didn't even ask if we're married.Cambo Dear wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 4:54 pmif you get the spouse/partner visa, it is a 5 year process........
