Siem Reap Expat Warns of Night-time Assault and Robbery While Biking

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

A reminder to Siem Reap expats to take care when out at night on your own, especially women, and especially in dark areas of town. Stick with friends or take a tuktuk. This was reported by a woman on social media today.

jeez it was a joke clearly from the dark side of Kampot site

Anyway as Hanno says it has been going on forever.... woman (usually) on bike with bag full of phone, purse etc. cycles down a dark street at night (anytine after 7pm) and wonder why they get robbed by a couple of little scrotes. They are an easy target and i hate to sound like i am victim blaming because i aint't, however 2-3 years back for sure you either cycle or have to deal with som asshole in a tuk tuk wanting $5 to take you home. With all the cheap apps out there now there is no reason for anyone to be placing themselves in danger by cycling at night or indeed for the pricks who think it is ok to drink and drive their moto. none whatsoever. most of Siem Reap would be $1-$2 to get home to in a passapp say. Same In Phnom Penh, yet people constantly take unnecessary risks to save a buck and then lose a purse and a $300 phone or worse, injury an a big hospital bill. It is a poor country especially Siem Reap and no matter if you can now get a smashed avacado toast and a vegan latte, it is not the cosy town in the wast that you come from. :please:

You're certainly more likely to die in a road traffic accident here than be stabbed to death in London, which is actually only 1.54 per 100,000, quite low. Also the 30 largest US cities all have higher homicide rates than London. Enjoy your trip to Costco.

That's it, I'm never going out again, it's dangerous out there. :dragonchase:
