Court questions nine after drugs raid in Banteay Meanchey
17 June 2019 | 07:29 ICT
The Banteay Meanchey provincial court prosecutor is questioning nine suspects who were arrested in a raid on a major nightclub in Poipet on Thursday night.

The nine were detained a little after midnight at AJR Club in Samaki Meanchey village in Poipet city’s Poipet commune, where the authorities seized 112 small packets of methamphetamine and 349 pills.

The nine suspects were sent to court on Sunday morning.

Banteay Meanchey provincial court spokesman Roeung Lina told The Post on Sunday that the suspects were still being questioned by the provincial court prosecutor.
“The nine suspects were arrested at the entertainment club, and the prosecutor has not finished questioning all of them yet,” Lina said.

Sar Bunsoeung, head of the Banteay Meanchey provincial Military Police’s anti-drug bureau, told The Post on Sunday that all nine are Cambodian nationals, and three are suspected drug dealers aged between 27 and 39 years.

“My Military Police team found three drug dealers and six users. If the court decides to send them to rehabilitation centres, it is the court’s decision. It is my responsibility to follow proper legal procedures and send them to court,” he said.
