Slightly different. But how many of you have seen the robot in the Canadia bank? In the Canadia tower building, there is a bank on the ground floor, with a robot in it which can talk to customers in Khmer, English and Chinese. It does not look like a human. Most customers in the bank are not normally that interested in it. While you are waiting, you can wave to it so it comes to you, and talk to it.

If it looked more human, it would probably attract more interest.

What institution is doing this? I noticed RUPP and ITC seemed to be doing a lot in this field.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

The truth is that, as with all attempts at making humanoid type robots, there's a chasm between the technology of making a humanoid 'brain' and a humanoid 'body'. We all have humanoid-type brains sitting next to us already - OK Google / Alexa / Hey Siri / Hey Cortana etc...

These 'robots' are often just extensions of that inside a moving mannequin which doesn't look realistic in any sense of the word. AI scientists seems to be fully focused on the 'brain' aspect of AI and not so much on the 'body' or 'humanoid' aspect of the technology.

I'm not trying to take anything away from these guys achievements, they've clearly put a lot of work into this, especially the Khmer language aspect, which ordinarily would get bypassed by the rest of the world, and it's great that they've created this, but as with all robot technology, we're still a million years away from Blade Runner type humanoids who we can use for sex or things like that, but mostly sex.

Also on Robotics and technology, some may find this an interesting subject. Richard Yim the builder and words from Lou McGrath, the founder of MAG.

A Cambodian engineer is building robots to demine his home country

Richard Yim is hoping his mine-melting robots will avoid the same pitfalls that have met other would be demining innovators

On any given day, thousands of Cambodia’s deminers put on their protective gear and head out into forests and fields littered with weapons buried decades ago, still set to explode as soon as a person or vehicle presses down. They chop away at the vines and bushes that have grown over terrain on which one wrong step could be their last. Some use a machine designed for clearing vegetation, others use hand tools. Once the land is cleared of brush, they can begin the painstaking process of locating and removing bombs lying just centimetres beneath the surface.

Creeping along with a metal detector, they wait for a beep and leave a marker, knowing that at least nine times out of ten it’s going to be a harmless metal item that poses no danger to anyone. After combing the whole area, they delicately prod the area around each marker with a stick to check the size of the object found beneath the ground, before cautiously excavating anything that might be a landmine. If it is, they remove the detonator and place the mine along with the rest of the day’s haul in a pile that will eventually be exploded.

It is dangerous, painstaking work that deserves great applause but, amid rapid innovations in other fields, there must be a better way to get it done – or at least that is the notion driving Richard Yim.

Lou McGrath, the founder of MAG,
Where these inventors often create `magic’ devices, as Crowther described them, they rarely serve a functional purpose. This discrepancy has led him to draw a fine line between innovation and invention.

When are expected to have realistic sex with it though? Asking for a friend.
