10 Dead in Major Traffic Accident on National Road 4
Kampong Speu, Cambodia News: On 8 June 2019, at least ten people have died, and four others were injured, in a traffic accident which occurred on Saturday night at 85-86 km on National Road 4, between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville in Kampong Speu Province.
A police spokesman has said that a Highlander driving very fast overtook a car and crashed into a tourist mini-bus, and then drove on to hit a container truck before bursting into flames.
Ten people are reported to have died, five in the Highlander and five others in the tourist van, and at least four others were sent to hospital for treatment.

No doubt they were. The behavior of officials in this country is an utter disgrace.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 1:31 pm So were the customs officials the ones in the Highlander?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I was trying to be diplomatic and erased the "overtaking like idiots?" part from my sentence, but I guess I wasn't the only one thinking it. I somehow doubt they were the ones travelling in a Tourist Bus. All a bit of a mess and so easily avoided by simply not being totally irresponsible, and having at least a modicum of regard for human life. Surprising this doesn't happen on a daily basis.John Bingham wrote:No doubt they were. The risk you run by just by being on the roads is one of the mains reasons I don't bother going to Kampot any more...

Accidents do happen on a daily basis, but not accidents with a high death toll like this one.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 3:33 pm so easily avoided by simply not being totally irresponsible, and having at least a modicum of regard for human life. You need to minimize travel generally, and be careful, if you stay in Cambodia.
