Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On 3 June 2019, a woman was arrested with 999.56 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) and one mobile phone, at the western corner of Central Market, street 128, corner of St. 67, Sangkat Phsar Thmei 1, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh.

The crackdown was conducted by the Anti-Drug Department, under the supervision of Deputy Prosecutor Chea Song, Deputy Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court. The woman has been charged with drug trafficking and police are preparing her case.

In the meantime the wholesalers are laughing and paying off their cop friends

[In another case,] the court yesterday charged and jailed a woman who allegedly trafficked nearly one kilogram of crystal meth in the city centre on Monday.

Major Meas Sarith, an Interior Ministry anti-drug trafficking police officer, identified her as Ma Chanthy, 35, a cosmetics vendor, living at a rental house in Russey Keo district’s Russey Keo commune.

He said the accused was charged with drug possession and drug trafficking and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. She is now in prison pending trial.

Maj Sarith noted that Ms Chanthy was arrested by the ministry’s anti-drug police at about 9.30am on Monday in Daun Penh district’s Phsar Thmey I commune after she sold the drugs to an undercover police officer.

“She was a drug trafficker who had been transporting drugs from the Laotian border, in Stung Treng province, for distribution to users in Phnom Penh,” he said. “She was arrested after she sold the drugs to our undercover officer.”

Maj Sarith said that after the arrest, police seized a big package of crystal methamphetamine weighing 999.56 grams and a phone from her.
