Phnom Penh Expat Reports Mugging at Knifepoint on Social Media
Phnom Penh: On 3 June 2019, an expat reported on social media that he was mugged in the Royal Palace area of Phnom Penh. Take care and take precautions everyone. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash if you are walking around, particularly at night.

I have also heard this and that others have been targeted by a group of rough looking ladyboys. They approached a expat and were joking and pretending to give him a touch up and smothered him a bit. They then ran off laughing and he thought it was just a bit of fun but soon realised they had snaffled his phone and wallet. This was about 01.00 in same area near markets. No weapons were used.

The street next to the palace does does not go past KWest, though ice alley beside veal preah meru is notorious for late night muggings and shootings.
Guessing they mean 154 which runs next to Wat Ounalom. The same street where this happened last week: post340323.html#p340323

That KWest corner has always been an absolute shit-fight late at night and for tourists in particular and even for moto-bag snatchings during peak hours.
Putting this FB post right up there with "I got mugged by four huge black guys at King's Cross, London at 2am on Saturday- watch out guys!".

I was mugged in Pattaya years ago by a hooded felon. Turned out is was my uncle (from my Thai ex, but we were still together then) and he immediately apologized and begged me not to say anything.
I did say something but also helped him out with (his wife/gambling/debt) issues.
I’m pretty sure he still did it but I never told on him.
He died in a Moto accident. The Moto was stolen.
Karma?

I have lived here for 2 years. I kinda know how the guy feel when just feeling relaxed whenever you go in the city.
Danger still anywhere.

Sounds targeted to me. I'd be thinking back to anyone who may have been able to peek inside the bag during the evening/night. If the wallet was in there, presumably the bag had been opened/closed a few times, especially if that had been in a bar. Although a dark Street and running alongside Kandal Market, it seems unlikely they got so lucky to get a large amount of cash/phone/etc in one hit. I'd guess a tip-off.

Any witnesses or evidence? Could be a fake hate crime perpetrated by the "victim" and his actor friends?

Kings cross London is quite the gentrified place these days, lots of bars, restaurants, the Guardian offices, the stunning remodelling of the station and St Pancras. Sure was nothing like its heyday in the 1990s when I went there in 2018.

Did just about everything wrong. Carried a wallet, bank cards (plural), "brand new" phone, "lots" of cash. Lived there four years yet he still walked around with a bag loaded with valuables. After midnight! Could one be any more clueless?
