Rear end wreck, body and alignment shop recommendations?
Rear end wreck, body and alignment shop recommendations?
Anyone here familiar with getting body work done on their car? Looking more for high quality "proper" (as proper as you can get here) work, the body shop I know has since closed. Car is mostly straight and tracks okay but the trunk doesn't close and the rear bumper will need to be pulled and straightened. License plate was also mangled badly, are shops allowed to get a replacement plate in the repair process?
Car is your average Prius, 2nd generation 08.
Thanks for any help in advance

Depends what quality level you want it repaired to and how much you want to spend. Question. Do you have insurance? If you want state-of-the-art bodyshop with the highest possible standards, go to the new Merc place on HE Blvd. I believe the guy that runs the bodyshop is Brit and very helpful. (I could probably get his number for you if you want it??)

Thank you for the information everyone, I appreciate it.
Today I decided to take a closer look at the car (I'm a bodyshop guy back in the U.S.) and the damage is a bit worse than I originally thought. It had some pretty bad rear intrusion into the cargo area and neither the hatch lid or bumper supports look salvageable. The car is a definite write off if it's in the U.S., so I'm going "write it off" and buy something else.

Unless you buy new, almost any car you buy here is likely to have been a US write off in its past.
But, I guess you probably knew that already.

Yeah, I went car shopping today and 9 out of 10 cars out there were wrecks or high mileage auction cars (and wrecked). There were a few Euro and JDM market cars around though which were much cleaner though but a majority was old U.S. stuff.
Re: Rear end wreck, body and alignment shop recommendations?
May I ask about your wrecked car? Model and year and how much are you planning to sell it for? I have a relative that runs a garage and even if just for spares it could be an interesting buy.

Its an 08 Touring model (range topping model w/smart key, leather, navigation) and clean title imported from the U.S. (still has the Manheim auction stickers) w/ 131,000 actual miles imported in February this year.
The price I "got" for it today (didn't do the transaction) was $12,500 as it sits, so I'm not sure if that's something you'd be interested in.
Just judging by that price, I'm guessing the work to fix it would be around $2-2.5k, because the car is only worth $16k or so when it's fixed. If it was a job in the U.S. it'd easily be 5 figures (meaning a write off obviously) though as it'd need a fair amount of time on the rack and both bumper supports drilled out, welded and replaced at a minimum (they're too crumpled to be saved in my opinion), as well as both rear quarter panels probably cut and patched up, or a hell of a lot of body filler to make it look right after pounding them "straight". Lights are still in tact strangely, not sure how that happened.
