Re: Facebook hacker who “cheated tens of thousands of dollars” arrested in Phnom Penh
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia News: With the co-ordination of deputy prosecutor Riel Sopin on May 30, 2019, the Anti-Crime Tech Department detained a suspect, Hak Sichai, male, Nationality Khmer, at Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh.
Police reacted after receiving complaints about a computer hacker who was breaking into Facebook accounts, and then sending messages to the victims' friends asking for money.
The suspect admitted that he broke into about 200 Facebook accounts, and used 50 of the accounts to scam people. He remains in custody and will appear in Phnom Penh Court.
Police remind the public that before sending money after a request on social media, you should verify the request with the person in question.

Not a lot of detail in this story. I can't imagine anyone hacking my Facebook and expecting me to pay them money for not exposing something that I'd already exposed myself on a public social networking platform.
I'm fully aware that I must be missing something here.
Anyone care to enlighten me?

He hacks your friend's account and pretends to be him or her, contacts you through FB, and asks for an urgent loan.Police reacted after receiving complaints about a computer hacker who was breaking into Facebook accounts, and then sending messages to the victims' friends asking for money.
"Dear friend(s), I urgently need $ to pay for my grandma/the sick buffalo/my gambling debts".
