Western Woman Pulled From Tuk-tuk in Angkor Wat Bag Snatch

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It is likely the police and criminals are working together, or the criminals are paying off the police.
It's also possible she didn't report the crime in the police station of the Sangkat where it happened, so they couldn't record it.....

I am really amazed by the people making excuses for them.

A woman was robbed. It was done in such a way that they didnt care if she was seriously injured or killed. In Australia, a crime like that would result in years in jail.

It is difficult to come to any other conclusion than the tuk tuk driver was also involved.

Police dont help people like this either when the police are involved in the crime, or when the criminals are paying off the police.

Why are people making excuses for criminals?

Come on, you were not there, you don't know what happened. Maybe the police was in the game as you seem to know for sure, but maybe the 'unidentified Western tourists' hardly spoke any English, or they reported at the wrong place?

If the police were involved, it would more than likely be one or two rogue officers. I'm very surprised that the police refused to help the woman.

Angkor Wat is Cambodia's cash cow, and if word starts getting around that not only is it unsafe, but the police couldn't care less what happens to the tourists who keep it going, it would have a massive impact on tourism for the country. It's the main reason most people visit here.

Explorer, don't you know it's wrong to complain about Cambodian criminals? There are a couple very active members here on CEO who remind us of that all the time.

It's only ok to criticize tourists and expats because those people just are hanging in the wrong crowd, and haven't managed to surround themselves with the abundance of upstanding, respectful, hard- working, honest Cambodians.

Most expats are in Cambodia by choice although there are some that do not have the funds to return to their homeland or owe so much in spousal support they will be jailed upon return. Why would anyone choose to live in a country they considered filled with thieves, liars and cheats? Why would anyone choose to live with what they consider inferiors?

There are one or two posters on this forum that share their unhappiness only and never have a positive thing to say about the country they chose to live in.

Add to that the fact that the thieves were arrested within a day. I wonder who could have arrested them? 8-)
