Can Old Men (60) Teach English in Cambodia?
Can Old Men (60) Teach English in Cambodia?
I am 60 and married to Chinese women.I reside in china on residents permit. Not allowed to teach English here. Can't have work visa and marriage visa together etc.(all though I did a bit anyway. )
Does same apply in Cambodia?
Are all the English teachers 'young' like here in prc?

Re: Can old men (60) teach English
At age 60 you can definitely teach English here in Cambodia. Some schools will look for younger teachers depending on the age of students. After 6 years teaching here I retired at age 65 from teaching, my decision. I could have gone on until I dropped down dead. Uni is a great place to start, but do not expect the same sort of salary that you can pick up in China.Doug wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 11:43 am I am 60 and married to Chinese women.I reside in china on residents permit. Yes Doug, you can indeed teach English, and probably will find work pretty quickly.
As it happens a friend of mine is looking for teachers now. PM and I will pass his contact details to you.

Cleaned this up a bit. No, a lot.

Let's disregard the stories posted online from people who spent months looking for work and didn't find it, and let's just tell everyone that Cambodia is a land of dandelions and roses where you can easily get a job teaching English regardless of your age, skin color, appearance, qualifications, experience, or English proficiency. Yay!

If you stay in Cambodia with a business visa, yes, you can teach. So far, there is no legal retirement age in Cambodia for the private sector. Many schools in Phnom Penh are struggling to recruit native-English speakers but salaries might be lower than in China.
By the way, 60 is not that old!

CN- I think you're drawing a long bow there imo. I didn't interpret what FLB and Whisperer said as implying it was necessarily very easy. I guess that was your take on it.Cam Nivag wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 2:13 pmfrank lee bent wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 11:14 am Yes Doug, you can indeed teach English, and probably will find work pretty quickly.

Sounds like there may be a shortage of these positions. If you are of the view it is very hard to qualify for these jobs..then, why not back that up with evidence such as links to other threads that would be helpful to the OP and others?
In any event, OP didn't actually ask whether it was easy to find a teaching job...he just wanted to know whether there was an age restriction..
No doubt he will find out whether he has the necessary qualifications and experience when and if he applies.

I am offered these kinds of jobs by friends at least 4 times a year despite having no qualifications. I did actually take one on to the dismay of the admin who found me impossible to control in the face of their own incompetence and ineptitude.
Luckily for them I became crippled with arthritis before I could organise a coup.

Also slightly OT, there are many well-paid ($3,000 USD/month for experienced teachers), teaching jobs in Myanmar (Burma), and with no age-limit (they prefer older teachers who want to stay in employment with the school for yonks...).
Oh, I forgot to add that you are as old as you feel. 60 years is not necessarily 'old'.

they must be real teachers with the diplomas to back it up.
Friend of mine used to run the IT dept and teaches IT at the International American hs in Yangon got a job in Bombay paying even more than he was making in Yangon, along with perks for his wife.
