Royal Ploughing Ceremony 2019 will be held in Takeo on 22 May.
Takeo province set to host Royal Ploughing Ceremony
3 May 2019
This year’s Royal Ploughing Ceremony on May 22 will be held in Takeo for the first time since the Prince Norodom Sihanouk government was overthrown in a coup in 1970, with the provincial governor and his wife chosen by the King to perform the tilling and sowing rituals.
Chhin Ketana, secretary-general of the National Committee for Organising National and International Festivals, told The Post on Wednesday that Governor Ouch Phea had been chosen to perform the ploughing ritual.
“King Norodom Sihamoni will preside over the Royal Ploughing Ceremony this year at the stadium of Kirivong Sok Sen Chey football club in Takeo province’s Donkeo town,” Ketana said.
Last year the ceremony was held in Svay Rieng province. It had traditionally been held in Phnom Penh at Veal Mean, the park in front of the National Museum.

Re: Royal Ploughing Ceremony 2019 will be held in Takeo on 22 May.
The ploughing ceremony in Thailand was held almost two weeks before the Cambodian ceremony, which will take place on 22 May this year.
Ploughing ahead: Sacred oxen predict ‘abundant’ Thai harvest
AFP | Publication date 10 May 2019 | 12:47 ICT
Thai astrologers on Thursday predicted an “abundant” harvest after a pair of sacred white oxen munched on grass and rice, and slurped up water in an annual ritual watched by newly crowned King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The monarch, seated next to his new Queen Suthida, observed the “royal ploughing ceremony” symbolising Thailand’s fortunes.
The colourful procession, led by two Hindu Brahmin priests, saw two white oxen walk a field to the sound of blaring trumpets.
Women, dressed in traditional Thai clothing and carrying trays of jasmine flowers, trailed behind the bulls to the sound of red-clad musicians beating drums.
The ceremony, which dates to the 13th century, marks the start of the growing season for Thailand, one of the world’s top rice exporters.
Royal soothsayers base their predictions on which foods the animals choose to eat after the ploughing.

Predetermination.
Cambodia's predilection for premium rice production prophesies;
No prevarication in the prodigious portents for this year.
Has anybody ever tracked the success rate of these primeval prognostications?
Hopefully they are more prescient than the Khmer rouge's unprofessional predictions,
the Cambodian Rice Exporters Federation's precarious premonitions
and the pre-dated presumptions of the RCG.
Nice ceremony anyway.
