Opinions Welcomed Regarding This Apartment
Re: Opinions Welcomed Regarding This Apartment
It looks very fresh, small I guess, is that what $420 p/m in $US gets you? That's a tad under $600 AU, dearer than what you would pay for a one bedder in Melbourne CBD, I imagine these prices are double what they were 5 years ago?
whats wrong with a gas oven? is the supply reliable over there or is if from a bottle?
I saw a balcony, large enough to sit out on?

Even the ugly ones

Have rent prices gone up that much? I've owned for a few years so hadn't paid attention to rent prices.
Last place I rented was a brand new full flat house, 5 bed 5 bath for $290 a month near Olympic. Is $420 a month for a small apartment normal for that side of town?

Times up Dave. By the time you catch a taxi there the great deal will be gone. It would have been scooped up by all the other Cambodians that have been looking for months for such a good deal.
Guess it's time for you to start searching through the other 6,325 apartments that are up for rent.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

It's a total shithole for the money.
Keep looking.
Keep looking.

It would be too small for me. No place to sit and do any work / studies. What's the size all together? 25 sqm?

There were some really helpful comments on this one -- notably the bit about transiting the landlord's residence to gain the stairs, which hadn't occurred to me.
.
I kinda hate Russian Market but maybe it's time for me to get over myself and expand the radius a little.

I thought that room was just the entrance hall.
Seriously, you couldn't swing a newborn kitten in that apartment, (and if you did, the landlord could easily come running up the stairs to ask about what the feline screeching was about)...

Rents have gone down. This is way too overpriced. You should get a 1br apartment in a building with a lift for under $400 easily now days. You can get even 1br apartment in a pool+gym+lift building for $500 in BKK2/3 area for example)lostjeremy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 6:36 am Have rent prices gone up that much? I told your landlord I am Chinese and will pay triple so you can stop worrying too much about the flat.

Re: Opinions Welcomed Regarding This Apartment
jajajaja, that's about what's going to end up happening.
.
The news at this hour is....
1) The building has a lift and the entry is *not* through the landlord's residence. Each tenant has his or her own key as one might expect and need.
.
2) There is a positively gob-smacking TWO bedroom apartment on the top floor of the same building -- better configuration, *killer* views -- and they're asking $550. They are willing to remove one of the beds and I could make a home office that would be the envy of writer-types in just about any first-class city in the world: Look out on Independence Monument from the sixth floor every day while I scribble.
.
2A) The problem with this one is that it's not ready. They're doing some pretty ugly work on it right now and they "assure" me that the place will be ready in five days. They've offered to put me up in the one bedroom (from the video) until the two bedroom is ready, but that seems like a recipe for hard feelings all around.
.
2b) The agent "assures" me that there are no power-cuts in this building because it's too close to HE's house -- which very much sounds like bullshit to me, and which, if it does turn out to be bullshit, will see me trudging up and down six flights of stairs whenever there's no power.
.
3) On the size-price issue, the missing variable in some of the calculations being bandied about here, is location. I can walk to the (for me) cherry end of BKK1 in about seven minutes, whereas the $300/mo 1br with a lift options are mostly TTP/Russian Market, which I don't care for as much.
.
Seriously, I am grateful for the targeted musings such as how big a problem it would be if I needed to enter through the landlord's residence. Keep those kinds of reactions coming please!
