Phnom Penh Tuktuk Drivers Beat Up Pass-App Driver in Territory Dispute

Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: During the night of April 18, 2019, a 36-year-old PassApp tuk-tuk driver, Chon Reth, was beaten until he passed out near Chroy Changvar bridge, Sangkat Sras Chok, Khan Don Penh, Phnom Penh.

A gang of local tuktuk drivers attacked the Pass-App driver when he came to pick up a fare in an area that the other drivers considered to be their pick-up territory. The outsider was severely beaten, but either did not want to, or was afraid to lodge a complaint or go to hospital until police arrived on the scene.

After the police intervention, the beaten driver was sent to hospital and a complaint was filed against the attackers.

I wonder if the corner of 136 and 5 is one of those territories? That lot there seem to be having it all their own way. I never use them.

I've used PassApp / Grab on that corner several times at night, no problems so far.

The slow and agonising death of the tuktuk mafia is great. I love witnessing it. Too bad that guy had to take a beating in the process, but goes to show how we're all better off without them.

I like tuk tuk but I dislike the driver, sometimes they are so arrogant and so tempramental...

I wonder why the Passapp driver's don't have any bruises on his face

Did you actually look at the last photo?

Sorry guys, i'm going to step in here and bare knuckle for the tuk tuk drivers, moto dops and cyclo men.
Salt of the earth. Mostly.

I have always liked them and related to them, and I guess that shows whenever I approach one. So in return I have some of them as my most enduring and trusted cambodian friends.
Not to mention the invaluable help, intel and goss.
