Also, I thought JC had gone down under. Or was that another airline?
The untouched beach of Ream is located in the Ream National Park. Take Route 4 to the Airport road 18km north of town. Turn right, go 9km to the ocean. The beach to the right is long and narrow and frequented more by fishermen than tourists. Behind the beach is a mangrove swamp, which attracts a wide variety of tropical birds. The beaches to the left nearer the Naval Base now have a few vendors selling drinks and renting tubes. There is a small $5 per night guesthouse run by the National Park. Check at the park HQ opposite the entrance to the airport.

The Ream Beach in Sihanoukville is the perfect place that takes you away from the crowded life of the town. Located on the outskirts it is almost a haven for nature lovers. It brings to you the best of creation and will surely captivate you to come back to it again and again.
I’m pretty sure they didn’t create that route for nature lovers.
Exactly, and Ream is far from the quiet spot it used to be, and it's only going to get worse. Same for Koh Kong, though I think it'll take a while before either place really goes "full Sihanoukville".

The demand doesn't surprise me that much, but I doubt the travellers are Thai. I've never really been to Thai beaches, but by all accounts I've heard they're way better than here.

I've heard strong rumours that Bangkok Airways will start Bangkok/Sihanoukville from Oct or Nov. Also 4 times a week to start...

Thai AirAsia to Start Bangkok-Sihanoukville Route
22 April 2019
Thai AirAsia is to start direct service from Don Mueang airport to the Cambodian beach town of Sihanoukville.

The no-frills airline will offer four weekly flights on the route from July 1. It is the third Cambodian destination for the airline after Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

What a strange suggestion that Thais would fly all the way to a dirty Sihanoukville beach resort when the Thai beaches are much superior. However, not so strange that groups of Thais would flock to the casinos for a few days gambling, or that Chinese tourists would stop in Sihanoukville for a flutter after a shopping trip to Bangkok. This new service should find takers.

Thai AirAsia launches Bangkok-Sihanoukville direct flights

BANGKOK, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Low-cost carrier Thai Air Asia on Tuesday announced the launch of the direct flight from Bangkok to Cambodia's costal town Sihanoukville.

There are four flights a week in the new route from Thailand's Don Meuang International Airport to Cambodia's Sihanoukville International Airport. Sihanoukville has become Thai AirAsia's third destination in Cambodia after Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.

"The new route is expected to serve the millions of foreign travellers who use Thailand as a hub, while for Thai travellers, Sihanoukville offers an affordable beach and cultural getaway," Thai AirAsia CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya earlier said.

Sihanoukville is a seaside town featuring Cambodia's best-known beaches at the tip of an elevated peninsula in Cambodia's south-west on the Gulf of Thailand.

The number of visitors to the province increased by more than 92 percent, totaling 650,000 last year, reports said.
