Khmer team shopping at mini-mart - not sure what to expect...

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Khmer team shopping at mini-mart - not sure what to expect...

Post by StroppyChops »

Just a snapshot of life around the office.

We have two new team members (16yo and 18yo sisters), neither of which speak much English or have much faith in my Khmer.

We're going to make pancakes (from a packet) so I've sent them out to a mini-mart for:
- a packet of Betty's pancake mix
- a small tub of chocolate ice-cream
- bananas, but not plantains
- a specific brand of bacon (well, reconstituted ham product)
- some loaves of bread (unrelated to the pancakes)
- a specific brand of peanuts

Neither girl is accustomed to going into mini-marts, and don't trust me when I say the staff will know what my list says.

Curiously, I'm quite interested/excited to see what they bring home. It's like a lucky dip!

You gave them product photos on their smartphones, right?

They'll do well.

We learned long ago to keep packaging for just this purpose - they did very well!

The only surprise was some unknown packet of unknown things, but it turned out to be the thermal bag the store put the bacon in to keep it cool.

Well that's a good start,, finding someone to go shopping for you.

Now, how do I start one of these '' team member '' setups ?
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

You've forgotten the lemon juice and treacle, but anyway good cooking.
