Another Barang in a Bad Punch-up, Street 136

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Another Barang in a Bad Punch-up, Street 136

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

A foreign male got badly beaten in front of the mini-mart at Street 136 and Street 19. They are not exactly sure what set this off, but it involved alcohol. He was taken to the hospital.

They also mention the CCTV, so maybe a video of the incident will surface.

Look how dirty that Cambodian pig is smiling. Look at his arrogant posture. Cambodians always loved to beat up foreigners....kind of public sport and it's getting worse and worse.

Well, it's not Connie.

Too much violence of late and too many foreigners making the news for all the wrong reasons.

Wrong reasons ? Surely there will be always people that behave like idiots. Fact is that mostly we don't know the real reasons. If something like this happens the local cops will always come up with a standard explanation: drugs and/or alcohol. And if you got shoot in the head then logically you died from a heart attack. They are not going to tell you that a bunch of Cambodian Neanderthals called a foreigner "chgai" and "ah joy my" several times before they spat in his face.

This week seemed overly filled with bad press about foreigners.

Better luck next week?

The eccentric (previous) owner of the gym bar used to refer to street 136 as "fuckwit central" and that was back when the only bars were the red fox, peace pub and cambod's favorite, the salt lounge.

Obviously, I was one of those Fuckwits.

I will buy it and rename it to the "Bath Salt Lounge" when I get back.

Time for some statistics:

in the year 2012 3,584,307 tourists visited Cambodia. 2,591,778 came from Asia, Middle East and Africa. 992,529 tourists came from Europe, the Americas and Australia.

So how many cases per year do we have where a Westerner gets involved in a physical dispute with a Cambodian ? 10 ?...perhaps 15 ?........that would be 0,0017 %. That's actually proof that 99,999 % of all Westerners behave very well. If the noble, Khmer race can't deal with that 0,0017 % then they should close the border.........

There are the times where they should get their ass kicked but they don't. Like that time a Dutch guy complained to my neighbors about the noise the were making. It was my neighbors wedding! Although now I am anti-marriage at the time I was horrendously offended. I kicked the guy out of my guesthouse. He then gave me my first bad review on trip advisor. The way I replied to his review brought me so much more business.

Thanks to the arrogant Dutch guy.

Note, most Dutch guests were great to have around.

perhaps nobody would have noticed the whole thing, if he just had gotten up and went home. perhaps 99.9% would have done so?

what is he waiting for?
