Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On April 06, 2019, at 09:30 am, a 64-year-old Swiss man, PETER HOFER , was detained for money fraud at ABA bank on street 53/136, Sangkat Psar Thmei 3, Khan Don Penh, Phnom Penh. The victim was identified as Leng Lyheang, 28-year-old, the representative at ABA bank.

The incident occurred when the suspect went to withdraw 100 USD at the ABA bank ATM on 6 April. After that, he went to show the bank staff that he had received a fake $100 bill from the ATM. The bank teller checked the fake money and told the suspect that he would check the security camera, and that he should came back again at 3 pm. After checking the security camera, the teller found that the suspect swapped a fake note for the real one.

When the Swiss man returned to the bank at 3 pm, he was detained for questioning at the bank and confessed his crime. He was then taken to the Psar Thmei3 police station for questioning. The police confiscated a US$100 note of fake money, real money for $116 and 20,000 riel, a passport, a phone, two sunglasses, driving license, and a black bag. The case has been prepared to be submitted to the court in Phnom Penh.

Fake Notes Being Circulated & Used in PP

Post by Richy9999Rich »

This REALLY makes my blood boil! This disrespectful and stupid foreigner should not add to this problem of fake notes that are being circulated and used unlawfully in Cambodia. Within one week, I had two establishments swap my real notes with fakes ($100 x 2 and a $50) - was choked.

I don't buy the whole story. The guy knew that he had swapped the money and would get caught after the bank rewatched the cctv and still goes back in the afternoon?
Why didn't they watch the tape instantly together with the swiss guy, I mean that is a serious incident?

Maybe he thought he'd done a good enough job of switching the note

This is the message that appears on their ATMs now when you withdraw cash. They should probably remind scammers about the cameras.
