He's basically saying if you can speak khmer it opens more doors as you can easily stay at a khmer guesthouse at khmer prices rather than paying tourist prices at guesthouse/hotels aimed at foreignersThe Last Word wrote:what does that even mean??explorer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:44 pmSome places are more expensive for everyone. Re: If you learn Khmer, you may save on accommodation
Are there Khmer only guesthouses that are nicer than foreigner guesthouses?
I’ve been to worse. Fan only, raised platform squat toilet, killer slippery tiles, etc.

There is no such thing as Khmer only guest houses or foreigner only guest houses. Anybody can stay at any guest house. However, there are hotels and guest houses where the staff dont speak English. As a result, English speaking people cant communicate with them, and dont normally stay there. These cater for Cambodians, and are often less expensive than those which cater for foreigners.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 1:24 am Are there Khmer only guesthouses that are nicer than foreigner guesthouses?

There are many different hotels and guest houses, in many different situations. In some cases the rooms are equivalent, but the price is cheaper. I know of one where the rooms are better than any of the lower priced hotels and guest houses which cater for foreigners, and the price is cheaper. There may be some not as good.
I dont remember ever seeing a squat toilet in a hotel or guest house in Cambodia. There must be some, but they are rare.

I guess this makes sense when written or spoken in Khmer.
I will make more of an attempt to learn Khmer to give me access to cheaper lodging when I travel.

Some are,, some aren't. That boy is a statistical genius.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 9:57 am There are some big places and small places. Some are far away and some are near. Some are expensive and some are cheap.

Re: If you learn Khmer, you may save on accommodation
I've traveled to over 85 countries, i'd say 2/3rds of the hotels i have checked into, NO ONE spoke English.
All is good
+ how would u know, EVEN if you speak Khmer, they are not charging you more than they would charge a Khmer, simply cause ur white and they know you have more $$
