Power cuts? Don't worry - "Cambodia considers floating plant from Turkey to battle power woes"
Re: Power cuts? Don't worry -
Oh googy. Cna we cut down 3000 hectares of rain forest to plant some solar panels to save the rainforest please daddsy ?newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 11:50 amAnd which lucky official is gonna tell China to cease belt and road activities so the power grid can catch up?Felgerkarb wrote:Unless the brakes are applied to development, no amount of power ships will fix the current issue as the demand is outstripping generation. All projects must cease until they get more power on the grid or they will never catch up.
EDC keeps a tight grip on power production by making it difficult for others to mass deploy alternative power production methods such as solar panels.
Re: Power cuts? Don't worry - "Cambodia considers floating plant from Turkey to battle power woes"
I googled around a bit and it seems like most modern power ships/ power barges use dual fuel industrial gas turbines.
It seems the Chinese are planning to build a series of nuclear power barges for the South China Sea islands. Besides probably not the safest idea to transport mobile nuclear plants in a heavily trafficked part of the ocean, it will further complicate things with those islands since in the case of a future conflict you also have to factor in not to cause a nuclear disaster. Or perhaps that is why they are deploying them... https://thediplomat.com/2018/05/chinas- ... -china-sea

Cambodia Cancels Deal with Turkish Electric Ship
05/04/19
Phnom Penh (FN), April 5 – Cambodia decided to cancel the deal with Turkey’s electric-generating ship due to disagreement on some conditions, particularly the timely inconvenience, according to Prime Minister HE at the cabinet meeting on Friday at the Peace Palace.
The ship expects to arrive Cambodia in early May; otherwise, the deal will be canceled, Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) official once told Fresh News when Cambodia-Turkey reached the deal in mid-March.

“Timely inconvenience”
“Oh, we’re sorry our ship isn’t anchored off your coast just in case you might need it”
It’s all about money. They will have to give people money that doesn’t really benefit them. It’s against their beliefs.
Instead buy $20k worth of generators and be done with it.
Even with all that solar power they are still 150mw short, and that’s including the one that’s not even built.

Yes, sadly the floating dream has been sunk

According to Phay Siphan, the government’s spokesman, the contract was retracted primarily because the floating power plant will take so long to reach Cambodia that it wouldn’t affect the current power shortage.
Re: Power cuts? Don't worry - "Cambodia considers floating plant from Turkey to battle power woes"
You would of thought the first question would be:
"When can you deliver the ship?
"August".
"Forget it..."
How do you enter a contract without that critical aspect being nailed down at the first meeting?

This whole fiasco laughable.
Wonder how this major cockup is going to affect them at the next Asean trade meetings.
Infrastructure, nation building and environmental factors are predictable to a certain degree. And the plans are
usually discussed and gradually introduced over 10 to 15 years.
As usual, the KOW, delayed action or just ignored the possibilities.
Now, they are running around like a headless chicken.
Update:
Got some feedback from the missus that the reason for this is the huge influx of foreign investment and industries. They were not prepared for the rate of growth.
hmm... I disagree again.. lol
This is why cooling measures exist.
If growth is accelerating at unexpected speeds, the onus is on the gov agencies to implement cooling measures to temper the impact of it on the citizens.
