Bad taste! But if they collect all the plastic bottles people still keep burning and burnt them at a power plant, there would be enough fuel for how long?

This will seriously decrease Cambo's tourist revenue. Expats who depend on internet work can't run on battery power for ever.

I suspect the aid cuts made by the EU and USA have something to do with it.

China will need to prop up its ally before seeing it go under, as Cambo does not have a strong economic base.

Just checked and the rainy season is due in May. Best to hang out else where till then.

Cambodia agrees lease for Turkish power ship

Cambodia succeeded in negotiations to lease a 200MW Turkish power ship to meet electricity demands in Phnom Penh, amid a nearly 400MW electricity shortage nationwide, Prime Minister HE said on Friday.

Speaking at the 18th Government-Private Sector Forum on Friday at the Peace Palace, the prime minister said the Kingdom reached a deal with Turkey for a three-year supply of electricity.

“Negotiations were successful for the lease of the power ship to supply Phnom Penh’s [electricity] needs. We will use the [power ship] for no less than three years,” he said.

He expressed his thanks to Turkish Ambassador Ayda Unlu for facilitating the deal with Karpowership, the owner and operator of the power ship and subsidiary of Karadeniz Holding.

This agreement comes after Keo Rattanak, the director-general of Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC) under the Electricity Authority of Cambodia (EAC), flew to Turkey for negotiations.

HE previously said that importing the power ship would not impact the cost of electricity supply.

Despite the Turkish power ship’s electricity being more expensive – at $0.14 per kWh, a $0.03 mark-up from local hydropower plants – the state has said that it will subsidise the extra cost, he said.

Cambodian going under? Somehow expect the locals will get fed up and overthrow iron man? Doubt it.

Cambodia does not depend on expats telecommuting for National stability.

The temples at Angkor don’t require electricity to operate.

The Sihanoukville casinos haven’t gone dark

The mainland Chinese invasion hasn’t stopped.

Ally implies equals. PRC China and Cambodia are hardly equals. The PRC says stab him, Cambodia says who and how many times.

So when it is arriving and how long to get it hooked up when it gets here? Anyone know?

The bigger ships (400mw) are already being used, one is being serviced in Turkey. They are the only supply of power ships/power barges in the world weirdly.

According to wiki their two biggest are 470, so closer to 500MW if you want to round it.
But then again their 2nd 470MW power ship is listed at 37MW on its own page, so with great power comes great responsibility (to keep the pages up to date...)

I don't see any info on what fuel is used. Diesel. Heavy bunker oil. Coal. Gas no.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
