Dutch city of Utrecht: Several hurt as man opens fire in tram

Several people have opened fire around 10.45 am in a tram at 24 Oktoberplein in Utrecht's Kanaleneiland district. There is a large police force on the move. The police report that there are several injured. The perpetrator (s) escaped, reports the police.

Multiple people have been injured after a shooting incident inside a tram in the Dutch town of Utrecht, authorities have confirmed.
Dutch authorities are considering "a possible terrorist motive" for the shooting, which happened in 24 October Square at 10:45 a.m. (5:45 a.m ET) on Monday, Utrecht police said on Twitter.

The police are looking for 37-year-old Gökmen Tanis in connection with the shooting this morning in a tram in Utrecht. A photo of him was distributed via Twitter. The police are asking everyone not to approach the man themselves, but to call the investigation line immediately (0800-6070)

Tanis was born in Turkey. Little is known about his background. He was on trial in Utrecht on March 4 in connection with a rape case.

Mayor Jan van Zanen has just reported that three people were killed and nine injured by the Utrecht shooting.
