I anyone is interested in the ASF or in fact the world of pigs, this site will keep you updated.

World of Pigs
This page offers a surprising and interactive overview on swine production all around the globe. Interested in taking a look behind the scenes at farms around the globe, then aim for the first icon, ‘Farm visits’. The second icon called 'Country focus' explains about the pig industry in important countries worldwide and offers a wide array of country analysis information. Thirdly, the icon ‘Global pig statistics’ includes a great tool showing pig inventories in all countries from the 1960s until recently. The ‘Expert opinion’ combines many columns touching on the global swine industry. Needless to say: all these applications are living tools – updates will be added once new additions, facts and figures come available.

Our last report on 14 December 2021 provided a full situation assessment on ASF in Asia.
The purpose of this report is to provide an update on the epidemiologically significant
change noted in Thailand, and report on the situation in other affected countries in Asia
that have reported ASF since the last assessment.

Since our last report on 14 December 2021, there have been no further outbreaks of ASFreported in Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, North Korea,Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, South Korea or Vietnam according toOIE, though it is likely that the virus is still circulating in these areas. In April 2021, mediareported that ASF was detected in illegally transported pigs that were intercepted at twoCambodian border checkpoints in Banteay Meanchey and Takeo Provinces, (FAO 2022),

I said that on Tue Apr 02, 2019 8:37 am.

I have had a few bigger problems since then, namely Covid! Anyway, I'm a shameless fan of pizza with pineapple.

New Swine Influenza A Strains in Cambodian Pigs Could Heighten Global Pandemic Risks
By IANS 2 hours ago
TWC India
Scientists have identified several previously unknown strains of swine flu viruses that have quietly circulated in Cambodian pig populations for the past 15 years, potentially posing a pandemic risk.

The new strains include viruses transmitted from humans to pigs and others with genetic origins from as far as North America, according to researchers from Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore.

Pigs play a crucial role in the emergence and potential spread of influenza viruses between animals and humans because they provide an ideal environment for the exchange of gene segments among avian, swine, and human hosts, ultimately leading to the creation of new viruses.

With pork production significantly increasing over the past 50 years, international trade and movement have further heightened the risks.

"Swine influenza viruses typically cause mild symptoms in pigs, but they pose a pandemic threat to humans since the human population may lack immunity or have inadequate protection against new strains of swine influenza viruses. Therefore, systematic surveillance is crucial for early detection and warning of new subtypes or strains," said Prof. Gavin Smith, Director of the Emerging Infectious Diseases Programme at Duke-NUS.

From March 2020 to July 2022, the team conducted swine influenza surveillance in 18 pig slaughterhouses in Cambodia, collecting 4,089 nasal swabs from pigs in different districts of four provinces. Among these, 72 pigs, or around 2 per cent, tested positive for influenza A virus.

The findings, published in the journal PNAS, revealed that scientists identified nine distinct swine influenza A virus groups, at least seven of which had not been detected for between 2 to 15 years.

Among these were multiple H3 lineages that had been transmitted from humans to pigs, circulating unnoticed for about a decade, as well as the H1N1 subtype, which was predominant and likely originated from human sources dating back to the 2009 pandemic.

Two seasonal viruses were detected in pigs from Kandal, Phnom Penh, and Takeo provinces, likely originating from Thailand.
