GF is in the province at home ( Svay Rieng)and says all our pigs died as did many of her neighbors.

Dont eat local Bacon/ribs!!!
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Relax, everyone. Allegations of corruption and pig-smuggling are officially "fake news", caused by confusion between legal and illegal pigs in the border region, says the Ministry of Agriculture. There has been no pig smuggling from Vietnam.

Ministry clears up reports of illegally imported pigs
The Agriculture Ministry yesterday confirmed that no pigs have been illegally imported from Vietnam into Svay Rieng province recently, setting the record straight after local media reports claimed otherwise amid rising fears of African Swine Fever.

Earlier this week, several media publications reported illegal imports of pigs from Vietnam, despite the fact that the Agriculture Ministry has banned imports from the neighbouring country to prevent any further spread of ASF.

Agriculture Minister Veng Sakhon said that he assigned a working team to investigate the case upon receiving the reports and confirmed that there has been no imports of pigs from Vietnam.

“Earlier this week, a secretary of state from the ministry collaborated with local authorities to inspect along the border areas of Romeas Hek district,” he said. “There has been no transportation of pigs from outside [Vietnam] to stock at locations in the district.”

“Officials also did not find any sick pigs. There was only CP Company farm in the area, which has sold all of its pigs,” he added.

Mr Sakhon noted that CP Company had permission issued by the Agriculture Ministry to raise pigs. The farm this year raised 14,387 pigs, which had all been sold in stages since July.

Thach Ratana, Svay Rieng provincial agriculture department director, yesterday said that no pigs have been imported from Vietnam into the region. He also confirmed that the area is home to the CP Company farm, which had been raising pigs legally since 2016.

“The farm is situated more than 10 kilometres from the border of Vietnam, which may lead to citizens’ confusion, due to the activities of the transportation of pigs in the area, and thinking that they were transported from Vietnam,” he said. “But in fact, the pigs were raised by CP Company with legal permission from the ministry.”

African swine fever wipes out Asia's backyard pig farmers
Outbreak forcing a shift to commercial operations with biosecurity resources
SHAUN TURTON, YON SINEAT, contributing writers, and YUICHI NITTA, Nikkei staff writer
October 11, 2019 13:28 JST
PHNOM PENH/BANGKOK/YANGON -- Before the African swine fever outbreak, Cambodian farmer Bun Kim Long had the largest herd in her village. Now, like many smallholder pig raisers across Asia, her business is in tatters.

Authorities in June ordered the destruction of the 48-year-old's 80 pigs after one tested positive for the highly-contagious disease.

Aware that ASF had hit Cambodia, Kim Long said she tried her best to prepare. But with a vaccine or cure likely years away, there was little she could do.

"We used mosquito nets to cover the enclosures," she told the Nikkei Asian Review at her house about 30 km south of Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital. "But they had to try and prevent it spreading."

In the face of the millions of pigs already lost, herds like Kim Long's may seem insignificant. But, for the former garment worker and her husband, the animals were the product of a decade of hard work.

"We started with 10 and didn't have a farm, just had a small house, where we slept with the animals and children," she said. "I worked so hard to get where I am now, we built this with our bare hands. Now the business has lost so much. I want to cry I get so emotional."

Similar stories can be heard across the region, where ASF is forcing a major shift away from smallholder or "backyard" farmers to commercial operations with the resources to deploy strict biosecurity measures.

Australia expels Vietnamese tourist caught with raw pork in her luggage
James Griffiths, CNN • Published 16th October 2019
Officials at Sydney airport expelled a Vietnamese tourist from Australia after finding 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of banned food products in her luggage.
(CNN) — Australian border officials kicked a Vietnamese tourist out of the country after they found 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of banned food products in her luggage, including a large amount of raw pork -- amid global concerns over swine fever.

The median baggage allowance for international flights is 23.5 kilograms (52 pounds), meaning almost half of the woman's packing was potentially made up of food products, including both raw and cooked meat, fruit, squid, eggs, pate and garlic.

"The passenger, a 45 year old woman from Vietnam, had her visitor visa canceled for failing to declare an extensive cache of food concealed in her luggage, including over 4.5 kilos of pork," Minister for Agriculture Bridget McKenzie said in a statement. "In the midst of what is potentially the biggest animal disease event the world has seen, it beggars belief that someone would deliberately attempt to bring pork meat past our border."

The woman was traveling with 4.5 kilograms (10 pounds) of pork, a particular concern for Australian officials amid a worldwide swine fever epidemic.
