Re: Fake $100 bills from ATM. Urban myth or reality.
Fake notes of all major currency can be bought on the dark web. A $20 cost around $3 each. I've never bought one but the sellers all claim the pass the major tests like paper feel, the marker test, security strip and watermark
But im with a few others as far as thoughts about who fills the atm machines. I believe mostly is the US the banks use a 3rd party to services the machines. I'm thinking it must be the same here.

These are NOT counterfeit bills;
it clearly states in them
COPY
If they were real counterfeit bills, i seriously doubt anyone here would notice
same u can no longer buy counterfeit watches in Thailand or se asia,
ONLY replicas

Dear to all,
Last week i withdraw 500USD in a Canadia bank ATM in Kratie, north Cambodgia.
I got 3 real notes and 2 counterfeit ones, the one marked "COPY" on it.
Of course in the wonderful Cambodgia, no-one really care of my complain, either the bank and of course the police.
I assume some people who works in the ATM note recharging replace some original bills with fake ones, then taking the money for themself. This is obviously scandalous and never seen that in my life everywhere else in the world. Be careful!
Advices :
Withdraw in ATM in front of a bank at opening time and check carefully all your bills : smelling, blue lines, sound and touching. It seems more and more fraud like this hapening here in Cambodgia.
I will never travel again in this country.

I got told this by the doctor at the Phnom Penh travellers clinic. Seemed like a nice guy, unnverved the hell out of me at first but really warmed to him. Spoke like a mix of Marc Bolan and the hunter from Jumanji, sporting Gary Numans hair. Glad to see their are good old fashioned English eccentric's still roaming free, and equally glad to know he wasn't chatting waffle about the fake notes. Will now withdraw all notes from inside of the bank.

That is undoubtedly the most accurate description of Gavin ever!AdamS wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 5:24 pm I got told this by the doctor at the Phnom Penh travellers clinic. Re: Fake $100 bills from ATM. Urban myth or reality.
Last night I met a guy in Bangkok, he had returned from Cambodia last week. He traveled to Cambodia with 1.000 USD in his wallet, all withdrawn from an ATM in the USA. During his stay he spent 600 dollars of that money, those were in his wallet. He put 4 x 100 USD bills in his room safe. His hotel was on the corner of 130 and Sisowath.
When he was in need of some money he took a 100 bill from the safe and went to change it. At the money changer they felt the money, and told him it was a fake one. After checking the bill visually it is was clear, the word 'copy' was printed next to the number 100 in the lower left corner of the bill. He went back to his room and found out all four bills had the word 'copy' in the lower left corner and all bills had the same serial number.
He contacted the bank in the US to file a complaint, and they asked him: 'are you 100%, really 100%, sure these 4 bills have come out of our ATM?'. Of course he wasn't, he had put them in the safe in his room, and he had not checked the safe 24-7.
So in his case, the fake bills probably did not come from the ATM, but were exchanged in his room safe.
He told me the name of the hotel he stayed was Point Boutique hotel. Not accusing them of anything, just passing on a story. He showed me photos of the fake bills, they looked pretty real on first sight, you's have to really give them a look to see the difference.
He was not drunk, neither was I. Just be warned. I am.

One of the first GH I stayed in in SR had a big safe behind reception. I had them keep my valuables; my extra cash stash and my Passport.
They made a big deal about putting it into a proper manila envelope, sealing it, having me sign over the seal, and then taping over that, on both flaps.
It worked great.

When you rent a room you are not the only one with a key.............. but you knew that didn't you?
The room safes have a emergency code to access them in case someone forgets the number or a key to override the keypad............... but you knew that didn't you?
I have always left important things (Money , cards and passport) at the front desk and had the manager sign for all including serial numbers.
I know the hassle it would involve trying to get justice from the local authorities but the bluff of their signature has worked so far .

Thats what all gh's and small hotels did in SE asia back in the 70's & 80's.
Never used it as prefer to have my $$ and passport on me when traveling. Note this is pre atm cards as well.
Never had any problems and except when dealing in hundreds of thousands of US 100 bills; from India,Nepal and Korea never got any fakes.
Also back in Europe got quite a few fake 50 UK notes
