Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway - Now Open
Re: Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Underway
What's all this talk about lanes? There's only one lane in each direction.

Really 3 lanes in each direction, as the shoulder will probably get plenty of action.
I'm back and forth on that route frequently and am leery of speeders getting a taste of the Fast and Furious.
Flights need to return.

If there is no central reservation put in, then the new Expressway will be up to four lanes in one or two places of random directions, being what is the mightiest truck on the road too make the fourth lane on the opposite side of the road against the oncoming traffic flow, in the meantime the small moto's will be forced off the tarmacked areas.

Re: Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Underway
For those who were wondering about toll charges for using the new highway: according to CEN, the price will be US$24 for a return trip, so presumably cost $12 one way. And free of charge for the first month - opening in July 2022 !
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): The new highway linking Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville has been 90.95% completed and was estimated to be ready for the public in July 2022.
However, a fee of 24USD has been set for a two-way use of the new highway. According to Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, on April 26, 2022, upon the completion of the highway, it shall be free of charge for one month for the public to familiarize themselves with it. He added that 24USD exchanges with safety in comparison to the normal roads, less frequent visits to the mechanic for replacement of tyres and brakes, and shorter time traveling from 5 to 2 hours.

I didn't realise it was going to be a toll road, just assumed it was replacing the current free road
I'd imagine it will be mainly cars & buses happy to pay the toll, rather than trucks

So, luxury sportcars + big bikes + cars + buses on the highway to hell, then scooters Vs trucks on the road to perdition ?
A hell of a fight on both paths !
Then wandering dogs & buffalos to spice both up.

Trucks are going to be the main user, transporting goods quickly and the money to be paid in tolls may just reflect on the shop floors. I can see a lot of Khmer who want to try out the speed of their new cars and bikes being pissed off, or in an accident. But let's see and hope it's a success.
