FIRST CAMBODIAN EXPRESSWAY OPEN AT LAST :
Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway opens to the public
Sek Prak | Publication date 01 October 2022 | 17:02 ICT
The first day of trial use by the public of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway saw some issues with drivers speeding and driving in the opposite direction as well as some motorbike drivers with an engine of less than 500cc.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport put the over 187km expressway into use on October 1 with free of tolls for the whole of October.
Transport ministry spokesman Heang Sotheayut said that some people were speeding as the road was open, wide and in good condition.
“Some people took photos of their speed and posted it to Facebook to boast. But this is against the rules and our police had instructed them not to speed. Motorists must respect the traffic laws and be ethical drivers on the road,” he said, adding that most of the travelers had followed the rules.

At least nobodies tried to have a nap yet in the middle of the road, though I doubt it will be long before somebody gets tired & decides to lay down for a snooze
Re: Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Underway
I was on the new expressway today and I think it's great, day and night in comparison really. To me, the big question now is, will they be able to maintain it properly? Having a shiny new road is one thing; I'm curious what it will look like in a few years time.
The fares seem rather steep to me. When we exited the new expressway, the would-be fare was displayed ($11), but we weren't being charged as they're still in trial mode.

Re: Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Underway
So $22 return.
Your MPG will be at least 20%+ better (no stop starting and smooth constant speed) plus less wear and tear on your vehicle (brakes, suspension, tyres) and it’ll save you time.
So, pretty cheap I reckon.

A positive start to Cambodia's first expressway - so far so good, officials say:
‘No Axes’ Signs on New Expressway Raise Eyebrows

As the new Sihanoukville expressway opened over the weekend, one set of road signs stood out: an apparent directive for “no axes,” which a company official later explained was meant to remind motorists to not cut down forests along the road.
The Transport Ministry has now asked the road operator to redesign the signs to avoid confusion — part of a small number of oddities in an otherwise smooth and quiet opening weekend.
Some 9,000 cars on Saturday traveled the 190-km, $2-billion expressway, and another 14,000 vehicles used the road on Sunday, the second day after the grand opening. The road is open free of charge for the month of October.
Transport Ministry spokesman Heang Sotheayuth said the opening was positive, though 10 cars were found to have stopped on the side of the 120-km/h expressway.
“We’ve tried to guide them at first about this case. This is really dangerous,” he said, explaining that stopping on the expressway was only allowed in emergencies.

“explaining that stopping on the expressway was only allowed in emergencies.”
Photographer (Kay Nara!) doing exactly that and leaving the car door open!
If the supposedly educated don’t get it what hope is there for the rest?
