I have been visiting Cambodia since 2007 and lived in the city and provinces for over 4 years.

I have never been "profiled" as doing anything remotely untoward in either of my domiciliary countries outside of Cambodia.
I put that down to the authorities knowing very well what I am doing in Cambodia.

I think that's why they now don't do it, it doesn't happen anymore when I fly home. But they also asked questions when I returned from Amsterdam, so its not just Cambodia. So they asked and became satisfied I guess.

American held over rape of five minors

Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged a suspected American paedophile who allegedly raped five underage Cambodian girls in the capital.

Colonel Keo Thea, municipal anti-human trafficking department chief, identified the accused as Pope Danny Lee, 60.

He said that Mr Pope was charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and also purchase of child prostitution and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted. He is now in prison pending trial.

“He was a foreigner who committed sexual abuse on our Cambodian underage girls since 2007,” Col Thea said. “He was arrested on Saturday by our municipal anti-human trafficking police after he brought an underage girl from her home in Sen Sok district to rape her at a massage shop in Kakab 2 commune.”

Col Thea noted that Mr Pope was arrested at about 3 pm at the Srey Neang 871 Massage Shop in the commune’s Kbal Damrey 2 village.

He said that police arrested the accused following a complaint on Friday by the mother of a victim that Mr Pope had taken her daughter to be with him.
Col Thea said that after receiving the complaint police searched for the accused and later found him staying with the victim at the massage shop.

He added that after his arrest, police rescued five underage girls who were staying with him.
Col Thea said the five girls told police that they all had sex with Mr Pope.

A North Carolina resident was arrested on Monday in Cambodia after officials deemed he was engaging in illegal activity with underage children at a child sex brothel. Danny Pope was caught in the capital city Phnom Penh when the brothel was raided on Saturday. He was in a private room.

Both Pope and the brothel had been monitored for a couple of days prior to the raid. The 59-year-old told officials he only gave one of the five prostitutes taken into custody, three of whom were minors, money “for food and clothes.” He gave one of the girls $100 a month.

Via the Daily Mail, a spokesman for the Anti-Human Trafficking and Minor Protection Office said in a statement that Pope was facing charges of “rape, aggravating circumstances and soliciting child prostitution.”

Sex tourism is a major industry in Cambodia. By one estimate, a quarter of all the foreign visitors to Cambodia in the early 2000s were sex tourists. A 2017 report from ABC News called the country a "sordid world where sex is the hot commodity and children are still used as currency."
