Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: At 3:00 am on March 1, 2019, there was a case of violence between a foreigner and a business owner in Phsar Kandal I district, Daun Penh district. Latest report says that a foreign man (now identified as Matthias Mebes) argued and slapped a bar staff after refusing to pay for his bill.

The western man had been drinking in the bar and ran up a bill of US$65, plus a $10 tip for the bargirl. After checking the bill, the man just left the bar and walked out without paying. So then the bar staff followed the foreign man asking him to pay, until the man reportedly became aggressive and slapped the bargirl three times.

Eventually the foreign man agreed to pay for his bill and also paid $400 to the victim as compensation.

Photo update: The photos have been updated following the latest news confirming that the westerner hit a bargirl and paid her compensation. Prior to that, the position of the foreigner in the affair was unclear. He was accused of refusing to pay his bill, (which was still unconfirmed at the time of posting), and then the information that he attacked a bargirl came later. CEO News.

Video of the ordeal and interview with bar staff:

Why is there that line covering his eyes in the photo?

I imagine if he ran up a bill that included a $10 tip that has to mean barfine.

When I read the title I expected to see a barang all bloodied but somehow he seems to have escaped both the running out on a bar bill and hitting one of the girls ..Would have expected him to cop a flogging from the girls at least and the drivers in the street.

Lucky bloke.

I don’t think so. To me it doesn’t look enough like him, and Taco Bill would have used a weapon on her.

Slapping a woman, the guy is an ass. $400 in compensation, I'll bet a night or two in the monkey house and he'd pay $2000 to get his ass on the next plane home.
