Re: Gibbons roaming around Phnom Penh
Almost exactly year after this thread and I just had a surprising encounter with a Gibbons and her baby at Soviet Khmer friendship hospital.
I guess they are afraid of the coronavirus too
All joking aside I was by the moto parking area underneath a tin roof. About 4 meters away I noticed what thought was a cat silently falling out of a tree at first. But low and behold, it was a gibbons that came down to investigate a fresh dragon fruit peel. There was around 10 of us and she really had no fear. I have great pictures and a hilarious video of her baby (older and very independent) running away and playing and its mother chasing after it. I could almost here mama cursing her baby as she chased after it.

They belong to a well-known tycoon who has a compound on the block. They are allowed to wander about the neighborhood. You can sometimes see peacocks and hornbills roaming about too.Ravensnest wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 1:04 pm Almost exactly year after this thread and I just had a surprising encounter with a Gibbons and her baby at Soviet Khmer friendship hospital.

I have seen the peacocks once too. My wife thought that she came from a big compound. The locals there said they come at 10 or 11 pm at night which is a hard pill to swallow since I thought they were diurnal.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 6:03 pmThey belong to a well-known tycoon who has a compound on the block.
